Cleanliness: room was very clean, clean sheets and smelt fresh. Toilet was kept clean and fresh, but only 1 for 12 people so queues inevitable). Bathroom (also 1 for 12) was quite disgusting, a very locked drain so you were showering in 6 inches of water in the bath - not pleasant at all. And because so many people were using it, it smelt pretty funky. We did not use the kitchen but you would have wanted to wash up any of the crockery or pots and pans before using them. And on the balcony off the kitchen there was a nesting pigeon right in front of the open door, which they were feeding dog biscuits - absolutely revolting in my opinion, especially so close to the kitchen.
The location was perfect- a 5 minute walk from a huge tesco and walking distance (max 15 mins) from every tourist sight. However the hostel is opposite the back entrance to the hospital. Every morning at 6am the deliveries of all sorts of things would arrive and unload outside the hostel room windows - this was very very noisy and we were unable to sleep for the approx 2 hours this goes on for.
The room was great. I had a private double. There were 2 comfy chairs, a wardrobe, a table, a big mirror and most importantly in the hot weather-a fan. However the bed was extremely dodgy-the slats in the bed had snapped so on the first night as I got into bed I fell right through! With careful arrangement of the broken slats, and lying still at night, I did not fall through again.
The service was great. Very very friendly receptionist and had lots of helpful recommendations. She was lovely.
Overall, the price we paid was excellent, and as a traveller on a budget this is the most significant factor for me, but if this is not the most important thing for you I would not stay here.
