“Private Slovak Modern Art collection.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2014

Former bank building belongs to one of the most intimate galleries in Slovakia. Exposed paintings and sculptures represent the best from the Slovak modern art from the end of the 19th century up to the year 2000. Petit café offer limited selection of beverages but you can have a nice time there after the walk in the gallery.

“Nedbalka Gallery - What a pleasant surprise, great visit for 20th century Slovak artworks”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 March 2014

The Galeria Nedbalka (€4 per adult - includes a coffee or tea drink at the gallery café) is recently opened art gallery in Bratislava, showcasing 20th century Slovak artworks.

The gallery includes four uniform, single-room floors, each with a large opening in the middle. This has the effect of creating much open space as well as a visible medley of art styles (spanning the floors), which you can see when looking into the middle of the gallery. In this manner, the building design is rather ideal for displaying art.

Each floor of the Nedbalka Gallery specialises on a particular art genre, including the Turn of the 20th Century, Modern Art, The Galanda Group - late Modern Art and Contemporary Art. Also, there are some very nice works on display. Our favourite overall is the Rudolf Fila abstract piece called 'Nude'. You can easily visit the entire gallery in as little as 20-30 minutes or spend that much time on each floor if you are enjoying what you see.

Overall, we found this to be a genuinely nice art gallery that has been well curated. It is a place capable of making art lovers quite pleased, particularly those interested in learning about and seeing Slovak artworks. We very much enjoyed our time here and would happily return for another visit when next in Bratislava.

Tip: Start at the 4th floor and work your way down to the ground floor. Take time to read the pamphlet and the information provided on each floor. This provides context in regard to what you are seeing.

Tip: Photography is allowed inside so feel free to snap a picture or two if you find works that you like. They also have a large book of the artworks shown in the gallery which you can purchase.

Location and Opening Hours:
The Nedbalka Gallery is located on Nedbalova Street, just a few minutes walk from the main area of the Old Town and is open from 1.00pm-7.00pm. Closed on Mondays.

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 February 2014

A lovely gallery in the city centre, filled with a wealth of important slovak art from the last two centuries. Gallery staff were excellent and full of knowledge and passion about the works, whic they were happy to share with me. Definitely recommend it, and for around 2 euro its great value even if you only spend a little while, although it took me a few hours.
Afterwards get a great pancake just across the alley.

Dear Steve,

Thank you for your positive review! We all try to do our best for you to enjoy Slovak modern art.
Unfortunately, Funky Panky the pancake maker had to move little further from Nedbalka.

“Wonderful little gallery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 November 2013

Found it by accident, hidden gem. Covering five floors in a circular manner Slovakian modern and contemporary art bathed in gentle light. Wonderfully helpful gallery attendants allowed photography (no flash), talked with us about the paintings and let us just enjoy the work without interruption. Genuinely enjoyed my time here - would absolutely recommend seeking it out.
