“Good atmosphere, good location”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

This hostel hits a good balance between feeling laid back and relaxed but still offering some livelier nightlife options. We stayed only one night in July but met many interesting people and enjoyed an excellent night out.

The main communal area is attached to reception which sells snacks as well as beer and wine at reasonable prices. There is also a kitchen for guests to use which was clean and well equipped. Staff were very friendly and offered many helpful suggestions of where to go and what to see.

Good location just a few minutes walk from the old town and about a 30 minute walk from the train station.

Definitely recommend.

Really good hostel with great facilities and good atmosphere. The staff were really helpful and knowledgable, suggesting places to eat and drink. Our 6 bed dorm was really spacious and comfortable and the bathroom was fine. Also sells cheap drinks which is really useful!

We spent a few nights at Hostel Blues with 6 people, travelling as a group of friends. We found Hostel Blues to be a great location, because it had: Party going on in the hostel (we were there for the hostel's 7th birthday party!), well-laid-out and clean rooms, a guest kitchen with everythings needed, a _ton_ of information on getting around (in the center, to parties, to the beach, into nature, …) and great staff who are there 24/7 to help you with questions.

It's very well worth the visit!

Really good hostel, staff were excellent and very friendly. The rooms, toilets and showers were clean but a little noisy at night due to the tram line and clock on the nearby church that chimes at every quarter hour. Nothing the hostel can do about this though. Very safe and they sell bottles of wine for about €4 and 1.5l of beer for around €2.

This place is absolutely fantastic! There is a reason this is the No.1 hostel in Bratislava! This is a brilliant place to hang out, meet some cool people and explore the city.

To get here from the airport you can get the number 61 bus to the intersection with the trams and either get the 4 or 9 tram which stops right outside the hostel. For public transport you buy a time for travel which is valid on all forms of public transport. The €0.90 ticket gives you 60-90 minutes so that is plenty time. You MUST validate your ticket when you get on the transport by inserting it into the red box. When you have done this once you don't need to do it again. If arriving at the train station you can get public transport but it is a 15 minute walk so I would just walk. It is cheaper and easier.

The hostel is located right next to the old town and all the main attractions and is by far the best located hostel in the city. There are 6 floors with a lift, a place to store bikes and a laundry in the basement. The reception is on the first floor and is big with lots of couches. They sell Original Slovak Beer for €1.30 which is awesome so it is a good place to have a couple beers and meet people. The kitchen is very modern and fully equipped. It can get a big crowded when there are a lot of people there but otherwise it is awesome.

On arrival at reception they will take a refundable €10 deposit for the electronic room key (like a credit card) and a padlock so you don't need your own. Check out is at 10am and they are quite strict about this. I stayed in an 8 person dorm (Dublin Room C). The rooms are very spacious and modern, with lighting, a shelf and two plugs at each bed. The shower was amazing and spotless as it was cleaned every day. The lockers are big and you can fit a couple of bags in each one. There are fans although they are not very powerful and it can get quite hot. The only bad thing about the rooms is that there is a church across the street with a very loud bell early in the morning but this isn't too much of a problem.

There is good wifi throughout the building and some computers in the reception area. They run a pretty good pub crawl through the centre of the Old Town for €13 with as much free beer as you can drink at the first stop, although I ended up going somewhere else on the last stop. To be honest the places you go you would find anyway so it isn't totally necessary to go on it if you have already met people at the hostel, just walk into town and find somewhere cool. I would recommend Narnia, which does 0,5l beers for €1!

Staff spent a good amount of time explaining the cool sights to see and places to eat. I went to almost everywhere they recommended and they were absolutely correct, they really know the city very well.

Security is fantastic, as you use your e-key first of all to get into the building and secondly into your room. No problems with people walking into the wrong room.

Overall a brilliant place to stay! Phenomenal staff and a great atmosphere in the hostel. Everyone I met was very friendly and if I ever come back to Bratislava I will definitely be staying here!

Thanks Hostel Blues!

Room Tip: I stayed in the Dublin Room C, which was pretty cool, although I think all the dorms are the same. T...

Originally supposed to stay in Bratislava for 1 night but ended staying for 3, largely due to the hostel staff.
The hostel is warm & comforting. There is a great buzz around the common area along with good beer. There's a good kitchen & an occasional cooking class. The rooms were clean, a good size and not over crowded. The staff were the best I've come across. They couldn't have been more helpful. Local knowledge & directions on the maps provided made getting around the city easy work.

Room Tip: Slept in 3 different rooms, but even the 8 bed dorm was good.
