Like many European cities which endured the double horror of World War II and 50 years of Soviet rule, Kaunas today is a pretty dank and four place - not some place you would ever want to visit. The old town is its saving grace.
Though it occupies a fairly small area, and is nowhere near as spectacular as the old towns in Vilnius or Tallinn, it still has enough charm to make a visit to Kaunas worthwhile.
