Kempinski Hotel Cathedral Square
Ranked #2 of 88 Hotels in Vilnius
Reviewed 23 February 2014

We visited Vilnius as a family in Feb 2014 and stayed at the Kempinski Hotel Cathedral Square for four nights.

Simply put, the hotel was perfect. The hotel staff were tremendously helpful and nothing was too much trouble.

The decor was beautiful and the hotel, despite being open for 18 months looked brand new.

I can honestly say I have never slept in a bed so comfortable, I felt like I was sleeping on a cloud.

We sampled several restaurants in Vilnius including the highly praised Marche du Provence and Stikliai but nether matched the food at hotels own restaurant Telegrafas which was easily worthy of a Michelin star.

Vilnius itself is an amazing city with a rich culture and plenty to keep you occupied, I hope to visit again soon.

Room Tip: Whilst it's nice to view the cathedral square it can be noisy as it's on a main traffic rout...

Upon arrival, we were immediately greeted by a sharply dressed, friendly and polite porter who helped us with our luggage and guided us to the front desk, where we were greeted by the receptionists.
They checked us in at record time, personally guided me to my room, trailed by a porter with our luggage.
We had ordered a Standard room which overlooked the back yard. Not a very flattering view, but back yards seldom are. The room itself was wonderful! Nice and spatious with a very high ceiling, a great smell of cleanliness (not detergents, just a great smell!) and no less than ten towels. Everything was impeccably clean.
The bathroom was also great, lots of amenities and seemingly at least two towels for any possible usage scenario.

The bed was the best bed I had ever tried, and I've tried lots of beds! Fantastic, and they even had a pillow menu, in case you were not entirely satisfied with the ones that were already there.

Room service was of course pretty costly, but the service was impeccable, everything came up on silver platters, very quickly, with great professionalism and friendlyness. We always sincerely felt well-treated, never like they tried to force a smile.

The spa was also very cozy, and entry was complimentary. Of course, the nicest changing room ever, but you could also just change in your room and take the elevator straight down to the spa. Nice receptionist whose job seemed to be solely to greet you with a smile and have a chat with you from time to time. There was a shallow pool, a big jaccuzi, a very pretty steam room and a normal sauna. One day there were some kids in the spa area, so we left rather quickly. The staff noticed and offered to keep the spa open several hours after it's intended closing time.

The breakfast was also.. the best breakfast ever. In the low season, there was a buffet and you would order eggs in whatever shape you wanted from the kitchen, along with the best pancakes ever made. Still think of them daily.
Selection of buffet includes champagne, small pastries, local meat and cheese, salmon, smoothies and everything else you'd expect. Very professional service, the nicest time of the day.

We were allowed a early check in and late check out by asking. They were extremely accomodating, and you really felt like you were the only guests at the hotel. Not far from the truth when travelling in early February, but still. First trip at a Kempinski hotel, would definitely recommend, and we will go back.

Room Tip: We only saw our own room type, which was the standard. It was excellent, but if you want a good view...

Kempinski is always THE Kempinski. A very nice hotel quite in the center of the Vilnius city.
Large apartment, very clean, great quality of sleeping, free Wi-Fi, a lot of small things in the bathroom, rich mini-bar, a very nice view over the window.
Must say that i am a big Kempinski fan and i am always ready to pay a bit more coins for the quality and comfort of stay. However i like to check the rooms for quality control - and this time in Vilnius everything was great. Even in the hidden places there was no dust, everything has been prepared before our stay.
I would like to especially note the quality of the services. The personnel is extremely professional. They helped us with local parking (because the hopel has only 3 parking places for free). So after our stay was finished the guy at the reception prepared our car and parked it right at the main entrance for our comfort.
Unfortunately we had no chance to visit the SPA, but at the SPA reception the personnel was also very nice and intelligent.
The restaurant at the morning proposes a very rich breakfast what is the rule for Kempinski even in a place like Vilnius.
Great place.
The only thing i would like to notice - i am a member of GHA. And when registering there is a special gifts promised to the GHA members..... as of the internet site. This could be a bottle of wine or something - but at our arrival there was nothing. However - i do not care absolutely because everything was great and i loved this hotel very much.

Up to usual Kempinski high standards. Location is perfect for old town. Lots of good eating/drinking options nearby. Hotel has good spa with a decent size pool. Maybe the gym part was too small. My room couldnt be faulted and bed was really comfy. Only thing lacking in room was ironing board, which i found was kind of strange. My only gripe would be with the salon bar and lounge. The service was mixed. In a way attentive and goodharted but too slow. I ordered ceasar salad and soup. Salad was ok, not great but ok and the soup wasnt bad but the portion was really miniscule. Beer selection wasnt to my liking as well. One lager type of beer on draft, thats not good enought. But i quess the place is more about coctails. Breakfast was excellent. All in all very good city hotel, probably best in Vilnius.

This hotel is first class in every way. Don't bother looking at reviews of other hotels, just book this one. The rooms are extremely high end. The location is perfect for tourists and business travelers, and the staff is friendly, helpful and goes over the top to ensure that you have a wonderful stay. Elge at the front desk was lovely to work with and helped us arrange everything we needed. On this trip, my husband and I visited all of the Baltic capitals, Moscow and St. Petersburg, and I can say with confidence that this was far and away the nicest hotel of the trip. I find that the star rating system is often unreliable these days and many hotels are, in my opinion, given inflated ratings. This is a 5 star hotel.
