“A well guided and organised day out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2011

We took the one day guided tour for 50 euro per person, Algis our guide was priceless, unbelievably knowledgeable and willing to share. The day started with a movie at the exhibition center that explained the parks ecosystem and it's floorings, after that we went on a canoe trip, and this is where Algis made it worth the money, as he showed us the beavers nest, and explained all sorts of interesting animal and plants facts while paddling along the river. We than had lunch and after that he took us to the bogland, and that was very interesting too. Algis made our day special, and the park is definitely worth a visit.

“Amazing Day in Soomaa”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 October 2010

Had a chance to visit Soomaa end of September. It was cold but it was worth it. Walk through the National Park, did some canoeing, tried the best local Estonian food, walked through 10,000 years old bogs. If you go there i suggest contact Aivar Ruukel, he will give you a true local insight to the park.

“Great natural and cultural travel experience - would LOVE to go back!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 October 2010

I had the opportunity to visit Soomaa National Park in October, which is after the popular summer tourism season but still very pleasant (not too hot, not too cold), and - thanks to our wonderful local guides Aivar and Algis - had a very relaxing, memorable and educational experience canoeing and walking around the national park. If you're interested in protected area management and nature conservation in European parks, Soomaa's recent experience becoming a PAN Parks destinations (panparks.org) - and what makes Soomaa one of Europe's best wilderness areas - is a fascinating story to learn about. The Soomaa wilderness experience is also a great way to get to know rural Estonia from a local's perspective - about the 'fifth season' (when Soomaa's vast bog area gets flooded and people get around by canoe), about Estonian's love of smoke-sauna, and about all the great local and fresh vegetable, berries, milk products and traditional dishes you can enjoy. I would love to go back sometime to experience some of the other four seasons in Soomaa, each of which I'm sure is enjoyable in its unique way.
