My son, his mother, and I spend a few wonderful days here while exploring "the summer capitol of Estonia".

Beware. If you have ever been to hotels and restaurants in Estonia during the off season, you are in for a shock when you see the rates. Do not expect an economy vacation. You might just as well be in Paris or Rome or Berlin. No, actually Berlin is less expensive.

We had originally planned to stay longer in Pärnu, but we quickly tired of the crowds on the beach.

And speaking of the beach...
Do not expect white sands and turquoise water. It's not that the water is dirty, it's just the geology. The water looks brown. Do not expect big waves either. This beach is in a bay which is in the Gulf of Riga. The water is very shallow and the whole area is very well-protected from massive waves. The water was very warm and very calm. It's great for small children. They can wade out 200m and can still touch the bottom.

But back to the hotel:
The grounds are immaculate. The exterior is fascinating and also well maintained. The interior is just as fascinating. We were compelled to explore every room even before unpacking.

Except for one waitress on breakfast duty, the staff is competent, helpful, & friendly. Most speak English very well.

Our room was spacious, clean, and had character. I love high ceilings and this ceiling was WAY up there. We expected to see ghosts, but none appeared. The bathroom was bright, also spacious & functional. The shower is not contained as a separate chamber, so you simply have to be conscious about where you are spraying and must get used to mopping up the wet floor.

The restaurant is over the top, but I'll write about that in a separate review.

There is a stage set up on the hotel grounds and 2 concerts took place while we were there. Having a world class dinner (with great service, even!) while listening to an outdoor concert was a special experience.

Price / performance:
You do get a lot for your money. This is true. Nonetheless, it's on the expensive side. I absolutely would come back to Villa Ammende. And I highly recommend it to all. But, I probably would not come back here during high season. Well... if business continues going well... Perhaps.

Having been disappointed with our accomodation we booked elswhere we came instead. We were not sorry.
We stayed in the Gardiner's Cottage but were by no means the poor relations. Our room was just lovely, decorated with art deco furniture, it was truly luxurious.
As a training hotel the staff strives for perfection and they succeed.
We dined in the restaurant on one of our three nights (it is quite expensive) and the food was delicious.

A really good hotel with an excellent restaurant. The staff were VERY service minded. The dinner we had out on the terrass was magical with a consert in the garden. The starters were seafood ceviche/chicken soup/summersalad/rabbit. For main course we had Lammracks (the best maincourse ever my son said!)/Pike/Risotto/Estonian Beef. Despite the waiter forgot my daughters risotto it was very good service and very nice atmosphere so we did not mind waiting. They also served "in-between-dishes" which was nice. This was the first time my children sat down for dinner more than 3 hours!

Room Tip: The rooms at the top was very quiet and it all had air-conditions.

We stayed twice in June, once for several days, on the other occasion for an overnight. The ambience was superb: the feel of a large country house with particularly caring staff. There were two musical concerts at the hotel during our visits, both free to residents and of high qualitity. The food was exceptionally well-presented - at times the menu description didn't do it justice. Though the grounds when we visited were probably not at their best because of frequent rain they certainly weren't cramped and, all told, we found an exceptional hotel for those looking for more than a standard chain hotel.experience.

This is style as you see in the movies, but for real. Top class in every respect, delivered by people who know what 'good service' means, and want to deliver. Everything has already been written by others - all I'd say is they are right !

Lovely old building thoroughly renovated with totally modern and elegantly comfortable rooms. Outstanding staff. Perfect location a block from beach and a few minutes from the
town center. Room #3 had three tall windows overlooking a park and was very large with a Jacuzzi in the bathroom which felt very good after biking 70 miles.
