My son, his mother, and I spend a few wonderful days here while exploring "the summer capitol of Estonia".
Beware. If you have ever been to hotels and restaurants in Estonia during the off season, you are in for a shock when you see the rates. Do not expect an economy vacation. You might just as well be in Paris or Rome or Berlin. No, actually Berlin is less expensive.
We had originally planned to stay longer in Pärnu, but we quickly tired of the crowds on the beach.
And speaking of the beach...
Do not expect white sands and turquoise water. It's not that the water is dirty, it's just the geology. The water looks brown. Do not expect big waves either. This beach is in a bay which is in the Gulf of Riga. The water is very shallow and the whole area is very well-protected from massive waves. The water was very warm and very calm. It's great for small children. They can wade out 200m and can still touch the bottom.
But back to the hotel:
The grounds are immaculate. The exterior is fascinating and also well maintained. The interior is just as fascinating. We were compelled to explore every room even before unpacking.
Except for one waitress on breakfast duty, the staff is competent, helpful, & friendly. Most speak English very well.
Our room was spacious, clean, and had character. I love high ceilings and this ceiling was WAY up there. We expected to see ghosts, but none appeared. The bathroom was bright, also spacious & functional. The shower is not contained as a separate chamber, so you simply have to be conscious about where you are spraying and must get used to mopping up the wet floor.
The restaurant is over the top, but I'll write about that in a separate review.
There is a stage set up on the hotel grounds and 2 concerts took place while we were there. Having a world class dinner (with great service, even!) while listening to an outdoor concert was a special experience.
Price / performance:
You do get a lot for your money. This is true. Nonetheless, it's on the expensive side. I absolutely would come back to Villa Ammende. And I highly recommend it to all. But, I probably would not come back here during high season. Well... if business continues going well... Perhaps.
