Being Australian, we were hesitant to try this "Aussie-themed" place just up from our hotel - the excellent Nordic Hotel Forum. However, it turned out to be a delightful surprise.
The place is a little jaded and the furnishings somewhat tired, but the food was very good indeed. My friend had the Russian soup, solyanka, and Russian "ravioli", called pelmeni , while I had a quite delicious salmon and prawn soup, with pieces of fresh salmon and perfectly cooked fresh vegetables floating in it. Then I had an equally tasty "home made" disg of pork chop with sauerkraut, salad and tasty hand-mashed potatoes. All of this for 20 euros, including a large sample of the local beer. Beat that! And the service was prompt and polite.
We were accompanied by groups of local students, who were impeccably well behaved towards us and each other. A very positive experience all round, and in total contrast to the higher priced attempts to cook overelaborated "French" food at so many of the establishments in the Old Town. Give it a try.
