“Nice Hotel”
Reviewed 28 October 2011

We had a standard room. This contained double bed, ensuite wet room, television, wardrobe, safe, minibar and desk with computer with free wifi. The bed was comfortable and good pillows. The internet access was a bit slow, but perfectly adequate for sending emails, looking up details of attractions, etc. Shower was good, but slightly weird smell. I suspect it was the drains as I caught vague whiffs of the same smell a couple of times walking around Tallinn. Well stocked minibar, but cannot comment on price as we didn't use it. Room and hotel was clean and our room was cleaned every day. Breakfast was very good, with a wide selection and plenty for vegetarians. Cereals, bread, hot cooked food, cold salad selection, yoghurts, tea, coffee, juice, etc. Staff seemed pleasant enough and spoke english. The hotel is near old town, but you just have to walk up a big hill! We are smokers and are quite happy to go outside, but would have appreciated a smoking shelter especially when it rained. There was a conference on for two days of our holiday, but this caused no problems at all. Only minor problem was our window was double glazed but hadn't been sealed properly around the side so there a bit of a draft and some noise (woken up by some random man sweeping outside our room for 30 minutes at 5am one morning). Also heating seemed a bit hit and miss as the radiator keep heating up and cooling for no reason. However, that said, we enjoyed ourselves and would go back the hotel. I would recommed staying here.

This hotel is located about 10 mins walk from the old town, which was just perfect to explore. The room was a good size, although the bathroom was a little small. It was comfortable and clean. Room service only appeared once whilst we were there and that was late in the afternoon, which was weird. Breakfast was plentiful although the room located in the cellar was small and people were waiting to be seated. Overall not a bad place to stay and if i returned would probably stay here again.

We booked a Zen Deluxe Room at a very reasonable price and were delighted when we arrived to find that it lived up to our expectations. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean with a king size bed, living area with leather sofa and chair and came with all the little extras expected for a deluxe room...........tea/coffee making facilities, bathrobes, slippers, luxury toiletries, flat screen TV,computer with free internet and wi-fi and a complimentary bottle of wine for my husband's birthday on the day we arrived with a "Happy Birthday" note. There was a huge whirlpool bath in the bathroom which was a godsend after walking for miles each day sightseeing.
The staff were all pleasant, polite and extremely helpful and the hotel is situated a 10 minute walk from the main attractions. The breakfast buffet was varied and plentiful with everything to suit the British and continental taste.
The Old Town is beautiful with a photo opportunity around every corner and there are also some nice shopping malls in the newer part of town.
One word of warning, if booking direct with the hotel..............don't take the offer of transfers. We were picked up at the airport by a taxi sent from the hotel at a cost of 17 euros(although the meter only read 9 euros 80).The return to the airport(by taxi ordered by reception) only cost 7 euros 80.
Apart from this small gripe,we had a lovely time and would certainly recommend this hotel

The hotel is ideally placed for the old town. The rooms are very good and the breakfast was more than adequate. We ate one night in the hotel restaurant which was also good.
I would recommend this hotel.
Note to owner/manager:
Your head receptionist really does need to learn the term 'Service with a smile'. Although I am sure she is most efficient her manner is rude and borders on intimidating.
Any question is answered with a one word answer as though you are stupid for even asking and although I at first thought this could a culture barrier other members of staff were not like this.
An example: If one arrives prior to 2pm which is the official check in time a little help would not go amiss. Whilst one accepts that the rooms may well not be ready suggestions such as please would you like a coffee or the old town is just up that road there would be very welcoming. We were greeted with the word ‘Two’ and nothing else meaning that the room would not be ready until then. We were not even told where we could leave our bags until our room was available we had to ask. This was not a language problem as the lady speaks English very well. A shame really because apart from this lady and her attitude everything else at the hotel was great.

Our room experience was a pleasant one for the most part. We had a split reservation that had us checking out and then checking back in a couple of days later while we explored another area in Estonia. The first room was very nice and the air conditioner worked well. The second time we had an adequate room but the air conditioner did not work properly and there was a peculiar smell in the bathroom area that I liken to animal decomposition. I heard 2 other people complain of the same thing. This smell was not present in the first room we had, which was in an adjacent building, the other room was in the main part. One thing that impressed me tremendously is that the staff allowed us to leave our heaviest luggage there is a storage space while were were gone to another location (for a wedding in a nearby town) allowing us to travel more lightly.

The breakfast buffet exceeded my expectations - very good selection of pastries, cereals, fruit, yogurt, eggs, bacon, sausage - just lovely.

One can easliy walk into Old Town - which is simply magical. The location is a big plus. The only advice I can offer is to suggest one look at the room first before actually checking into it if it is located in the main building.

Though on a fairly busy corner (ask for a quiet room if you'r a bit allergic to traffic noise) - this Hotel is really well placed for a short break to Tallinn. The excellent 90K bus (2 Euros) runs directly to and from the Airport, only a 15 minute journey, from the nearby Hotel Tallinn, just across the road from the Stackelberg, though it stops operating at 18:30. (The new Airport Shuttle service is a good second-choice, 5 Euros) The Hotel itself has super English-speaking staff, the rooms are beautifully clean and the outside Courtyard provides jazz-style entertainment at the weekend. The food was tasty and for the solo traveller, it's an excellent place to eat without feeling "Billy-no-mates". There's a good spread at Breakfast, all you could want including traditional fried-stuff. As usual though, lukewarm water for tea and a rather feeble cereal selection is a slight disappointment, as was the Tea/coffee basket in the room.

Room Tip: Ground/first-floor front rooms are prone to traffic noise, ask for quieter at the back.

I was a bit concerned about choice of hotel after reading a few Trip Advisor reviews. However, staying for 7 nights we had no problems with the Hotel at all. It is a beautifully restored old building, a short walk up a gentle hill directly opposite the Hotel entrance takes you to the old town and another short walk takes you to the train and bus station. Our room was a Zen room although we only paid the basic tariff, the room was spacious enough for three and backed on to the court yard. Despite being a bar area the court yard was quiet, even the live music over two nights, gentle Jazz that finished at 10.30 was not a problem, on the contary enjoyable. The buffet breakfast had plenty of choice and was in nice surroundings. The airport transfer was smooth and any information requested from reception was prompt and accurate. The bar and restaurant provided great service and decent value for money. While in the city I looked at a few alternative Hotels I had considered, they offered no great advantage in location and when I return to Tallin The Von Stackelberg will be my first choice as it provides excellant value ( we paid just under 60 uk pounds per night ).

Room Tip: Our Zen room was great, but did not see a standard room with which to compere.
