“What a delight”
Reviewed 21 November 2011

This was a fantastic boutique hotel just below the Old town. The taxi from the airport was only 7 Euros and the hotel was impeccable. A lovely stroll up the hill outside the hotel took us to the top of the old town where we could wander at leisure.
The breakfast was superb with a great buffet (hot and cold). On the Sunday there was no buffet but they took your order. Beware, we ordered a full breakfast and got masses of everything - too much.
The room was idyllic with free internet on the PC in the room and tea/coffee facitities. The bathroom was luxurious with a jaccuzzi style bath.
The reception staff were very helpful as were all the staff that we met. The shopping was not particulary cheap, in fact I was surprised at how expensive it was.
We went to Helsinki on the ferry one day and this was very easy. Take a 5 euro taxi to the port and buy a ticket at the terminal. It's as simple as that. The crossing takes two hours. Helsinki is very expensive (food, drink and taxi's) but well worth a visit with some great value bargain clothes shopping to be had.
Whilst the hotel bar was quite quiet - there is an international hotel across the road wher you can get cocktails etc if you wished. A lovely hotel in a super location.

Our flight was delayed so we arrived at the von Stackelberg 3 hours late at 2am (Kudos to late rooms for contacting the hotel to tell them we would be late) to be met with a happy smile and a short and organised check in.
Our 'Zen' room was immaculate with a huge bed comfortable bed, flat screen TV and most helpfully of all a computer with free internet access. The bathroom was all in good order, clean with a whirlpool bath. In short just what you hope to arrive to.
Breakfast has a huge array of choice & unless you are extremely fussy there is something for you.
The hotel itself is a short 10 minute walk into the centre at most; It really is ideally located.
The building itself is extremely charming & well maintained and throughout our stay it's satff were very very helpful - nothing too much trouble.
An unhesitating 'Highly recommended'.

Room Tip: Ask for a zen room on the third floor.

We stayed at the Von Stackelberg hotel in Tallinn for our tenth wedding anniversary. We with swithering between a standard room at the Swissotel (5*) or the Zen Deluxe at the Von Stackelberg (4*); both were the same price, but were very different in style and concept. We made a great decision!

The room was spacious, very clean, had a lovely feel to it, was romantic and individual. This was the same throughout the hotel.

The breakfast was a buffet style with lots of choice - and as vegetarians we found there was plenty on offer for us too.

The location was unbeatable. We couldn't believe the less than five minute walk to the old town, and were very pleased to find out how close we were to the hop on/ off bus stop too.

We would really recommend the hotel to anybody who wants something that isn't corporate, is well done, well situated and individual - at a very good price.

Room Tip: We had one of the Zen Deluxe rooms - fantastic.

This is a difficult one, the Von Stackleberg is far from our perfect Hotel, but there are some nice feaures here. However they are let down by other discrepencies. We had traveled with realatives and booked two Zen rooms several months earlier securing a good value deal. Located directly opposite the Grand Hotel Tallinn, a Tallink ( bright yellow ones ) Taxi was 8 euro door to door from the airport, so the hotel is very easy to get to even though our taxi driver had never heard of it.
Upon arrival we were allocated two adjacent rooms on the 3rd floor. Our room was on the small side with a window overlooking the rear courtyard and conference facility, featuring a mini bar, free room safe, free internet, monitor & keyboard ( sadly this only worked off and on for a day and a half of our four day stay ) large comfortable bed, tea. & coffee making, flat screen TV, telephone, one double wardrobe one smal chair.
The bathroom was the main cause of our frustration though. It was very or dare I say too small and featured a large bath with whirlpool facility which had some appeal. The shower was linked into the taps of the bath and had two settings ....Baltic or Hot Magma, with barely a 1000th of an inch between each setting. A problem our relatives had as well. Now I'm almost 6ft and had difficulty climbing into it in such a tight space
Two small shower gels initially being the only toiletries in there. Dark, cracked slate tiles also don't enhance the feeling of space either. Overall cleanliness in here was poor as well, with previous stains obviously not cleaned. Not what you might call Zen.

Now compare this with the adjacent room allocated to our relatives which had a large bathroom and was spacious and even featured a full length lounge chair. Their bathroom was almost twice the size, roomy and all very Zen. These rooms where booked together at the same time and rate , so why so different ?
All the staff we dealt with were helpful, some more than others, but overall very good . Breakfast was varied and food average to good quality. The breakfast room doubles as the bar in the evening but was a bit clinical and uninviting as a bar

Stay here again ? Don't know, it was good value, but perhaps book a deluxe suite room, that way I'd know what to expect.. It's only 10 minutes walk up the hill to the old town, we had great weather so didn't spend that much time at the hotel. Overall I'm happy we got what we paid for , some got a bit more.

Room Tip: Either book a Zen Deluxe suite or look at the allocated room before you agree.

We had a standard room. This contained double bed, ensuite wet room, television, wardrobe, safe, minibar and desk with computer with free wifi. The bed was comfortable and good pillows. The internet access was a bit slow, but perfectly adequate for sending emails, looking up details of attractions, etc. Shower was good, but slightly weird smell. I suspect it was the drains as I caught vague whiffs of the same smell a couple of times walking around Tallinn. Well stocked minibar, but cannot comment on price as we didn't use it. Room and hotel was clean and our room was cleaned every day. Breakfast was very good, with a wide selection and plenty for vegetarians. Cereals, bread, hot cooked food, cold salad selection, yoghurts, tea, coffee, juice, etc. Staff seemed pleasant enough and spoke english. The hotel is near old town, but you just have to walk up a big hill! We are smokers and are quite happy to go outside, but would have appreciated a smoking shelter especially when it rained. There was a conference on for two days of our holiday, but this caused no problems at all. Only minor problem was our window was double glazed but hadn't been sealed properly around the side so there a bit of a draft and some noise (woken up by some random man sweeping outside our room for 30 minutes at 5am one morning). Also heating seemed a bit hit and miss as the radiator keep heating up and cooling for no reason. However, that said, we enjoyed ourselves and would go back the hotel. I would recommed staying here.

This hotel is located about 10 mins walk from the old town, which was just perfect to explore. The room was a good size, although the bathroom was a little small. It was comfortable and clean. Room service only appeared once whilst we were there and that was late in the afternoon, which was weird. Breakfast was plentiful although the room located in the cellar was small and people were waiting to be seated. Overall not a bad place to stay and if i returned would probably stay here again.

We booked a Zen Deluxe Room at a very reasonable price and were delighted when we arrived to find that it lived up to our expectations. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean with a king size bed, living area with leather sofa and chair and came with all the little extras expected for a deluxe room...........tea/coffee making facilities, bathrobes, slippers, luxury toiletries, flat screen TV,computer with free internet and wi-fi and a complimentary bottle of wine for my husband's birthday on the day we arrived with a "Happy Birthday" note. There was a huge whirlpool bath in the bathroom which was a godsend after walking for miles each day sightseeing.
The staff were all pleasant, polite and extremely helpful and the hotel is situated a 10 minute walk from the main attractions. The breakfast buffet was varied and plentiful with everything to suit the British and continental taste.
The Old Town is beautiful with a photo opportunity around every corner and there are also some nice shopping malls in the newer part of town.
One word of warning, if booking direct with the hotel..............don't take the offer of transfers. We were picked up at the airport by a taxi sent from the hotel at a cost of 17 euros(although the meter only read 9 euros 80).The return to the airport(by taxi ordered by reception) only cost 7 euros 80.
Apart from this small gripe,we had a lovely time and would certainly recommend this hotel
