“Worth Every penny”
Reviewed 12 February 2010

Stayed for 3 nights in February 2010 with my wife, daughter and her partner. we had executive rooms on the 5th floor. The hotel was very quiet as it was the low season. The snow was thick on the ground but the hotel was warm and inviting. It must be said that prices inside the hotel are expensive - a 1litre bottle of water in the room was 75EEK (£4.50) but no worse than UK prices. It is a 10 minute walk into the old town. The pool is superb but be careful as 'free' use of the pool is only until 11am, otherwise there is a charge of 125EEK (nearly £8) but probably worth it. The Asian buffet in the hotel at about £18 per head is excellent. There areb pother options in the hotel and unlimited options in the town. All in all a really good place.

This is a great hotel very close to the old town. It has great facilities, gym, sauna, pool. The pool can feel a little chilly to us soft Brits! The combincation of the old hotel with the new conference centre works very well. The buffet at lunchtime is wonderful, dont try it if you are trying to diet. The desserts are unsurpassable!

Hotel is well located for a short walk in to Tallinn old town. Our room was on the 5th floor and it was spacious and clean. Cafe Mademoiselle was lovely. Ok hotel.

Two hotels in one..I was located in the Grand on one side which is sophisticated and almost regal but I did ask to move to the Meriton Spa...across the lobby (same reception) and I was very happy with the more contemporary and modern room with adequate facilities for the same price. Staff were pleasant and accommodating. The Aqua spa and pool was very nice, several sauna's, pool and a bar although there is an additional cost to use it in the evening? Towels are dated and need replacing. Other hotels in the city include this cost in the price. Breakfast was adequate, nothing special but what you would expect at a conference style hotel...nice cafe and tapas bar.

This was my second stay in Tallinn - again two nights with my boyfriend, and this time in late summer. Meriton Conference & Spa is a brand new glass hotel, built as an extension to the older Meriton Grand hotel. It's located just outside the city wall on the Western edge of it, and this was a novelty for us as the last time we stayed on the Eastern edge. To me it's a bit off, if you arrive and leave by ferry. The spa center is of a medium size with four saunas, two jacuzzis, two pools and many different kinds of massage showers. I do find it stupid that it's free for hotel guests only in the morning. During our stay it wasn't crowded at all, which I liked, but otherwise it's just an average spa. There's also a day spa (beauty center) in the hotel, which we didn't try out this time.

We had a regular room, which was of average size: not small, not large. I'd say it was a three-star room - nothing wrong with it but nothing special about it. There's a panoramic glass outer wall (but not much to see), and on the other hand you're really on display when it's dark outside. The thing I liked best was the sound insulation - it was amazing! The room was really quiet, you couldn't hear anything from the corridor or the street. The breakfast buffet was versatile but the breakfast room (Bistro Mary) was awfully crowded and had bad acoustics. In the end it wasn't very enjoyable.

The hotel itself is of course very neat, and in theory there's nothing wrong with it, but somehow I just wasn't impressed. Sure it's a four-star and everything's working perfectly, but then you just would expect even something more. I think this was a sum of many things. The design of the hotel was too bland and white for my taste, it lacked luxury. The spa was average. The location was OK but not perfect - only few rooms have the nice view towards Toompea, the views from the rest are not great. The environment of the hotel is partly "unfinished", for example there's a sand field next to it. The sand field is also the only view you have from the breakfast room.

The service was always friendly and professional. It was nice that they let us keep the room for extra two hours free of charge. To sum up, it's not a bad hotel at all. In fact it's very good, but I just can't help comparing it to my previous hotel experience in Tallinn which was even better. I'd say it's a 3½ star or 4-. If you're looking for a spa hotel, it's a good choice. If you don't intend to swim, I'd choose another place with better location.

We were planning to spend 2 nights in Meriton Old Town hotel. Unfortunately, Old Town hotel was overbooked, so our reservation was transferred to Meriton Conference & Spa hotel which is connected to Meriton Grand Hotel by a wall.
The location of Conference & Spa hotel is nice (but not perfect :) ), close to Toompea castle (Tall Herman’s Tower) and Aleksandr Nevski Cathedral. We had a double room on the 7th floor overlooking Toompea castle in part with the Grand hotel wall. The room was rather small, it was connected to another one by a double door with a lock (in case 4 of you plan to stay ask for joined-up rooms). There was no carper on the room floor though it’s shown in the website photos. The window of the room does not open, so the room is air-conditioned all the time and you can continually hear the humming. Only the bathroom was cleaned every day (towels changed).

Breakfast is served in Bistro Mary from 6:30 to 10:00. There is wide assortment, such as: eggs (boiled & scrambled), bacon, meatballs, cereal, fresh vegetables (sweet pepper, cucumbers (& pickles), tomatoes, lettuce), pancakes, rolls, preserved fruits, tea/coffee, milk, yoghurt, etc.

NB! You will have to pay for parking outside the hotel and in the garage (1h = 30 EEK, 24h = 150 EEK), there is no cost-free parking in front of the hotel.

I admire Tallinn, but next time we visit it I’d like to stay at Meriton Old Town hotel. Simply we prefer smaller and more intimate accommodation.
