Description: Kloostri Ait Restaurant has been operating in Vene Street, the Old Town of Tallinn, since 1994. Like the mediaeval granary building for which it is named, the establishment has had a colourful history full of changes. Intimate in the evenings, when the warm colours come to life, Kloostri Ait is no less cosy during the day, when it makes a good stop for lunch. The spacious dining area is well-ventilated and there is plenty of room for guests with baby carriages or wheelchairs. At weekends, live ensembles perform. Kloostri Ait welcomes both established and young artists onstage.

This says it all. Location ok, food ok, wine ok, prices ok, staff is not trained to smile. Shame, it could have been a good restaurant.

We visited Tallinn on a ferry day trip from Helsinki. We struck lucky! We had a meal for 4 at this restaurant which is in a street leading off the main square towards the ferry terminal. The interior has been very thoughtfully decorated.Huge open fire for the cold weather looks inviting.
The food is excellent. We all had different dishes and cleared the lot. Cost for 4 with all the drinks-92 euros. Staff were great. What more could you ask for?

There is a museum leading off the back of it but we did not have time to visit it.

A biggish airy bar/restaurant in old town. Atmospheric setting with roaring wood burning fire in winter.
Smallish menu, but dined twice in a 4 night stay and both meals were memorable whilst affordable.
The staff were very helpful and were honest enough to advise against ordering 2 side salads when one was sufficient! And it was!

Superb home made soups of the day and specials especially great value.

Most restaurants in Tallinn, today, are designed to provide mediocre food to cruise ship visitors ,while fleecing their pockets with overpriced offerings.Kloostri Ait is one of perhaps 3 exceptions in the Old City. First,it is Estonian, not Russian pretending to be Estonian! Two entrees are outstanding..duck breast and fillet of pike perch. For dessert, their creme brûlée is tops. While the wine list is limited, no listing is overpriced. Dinner for four with wine, about 100 euros. The service is competent and friendly.
