“Cosy apartment in the old city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2013

We stayed at 23 Vene St in a 1-bed apartment (Vene1) off a cobbled courtyard. We had asked for (and got) a ground floor apartment although there was a short flight of stairs to access the apartment. The decor was chintzy and old-fashioned and in keeping with the property. Well-equipped kitchen, good shower, comfortable beds and only about 300 metres from town hall square. We paid £190 for 3 nights which we thought good value. Reception was some distance away, the other side of the main square, and lugging suitcases through cobbled streets is tiring! Excellent restaurant above reception by the way, where we ate twice and would gone again but they were booked up!

Room Tip: Many of the properties are in old houses without lifts so ask if you need ground floor.

We booked 4 nights at these apartments so we could have our Estonian Godchildren stay with us. We experienced 3 flights of stairs, with travel luggage to get to our first accommodations, tough when your 80 plus. The apartment also experienced an extreme amount of street noise. The good news was after contacting the office at the end of the first day we were graciously transferred to an apartment accessible by an elevator by their staff at no charge. Be aware of where your apartment will be if you a senior citizen and they will accommodate you if available. If you would like an exceptional dining experience we found the one at the office location was listed in TripAdvisor with a very high rating.

Room Tip: Book a apartment NOT facing Old Town Square which closes down about 2:00 am.

Reception is very friendly, location is perfect, Apartments themselves are very modern with interesting design. I would say they are "inserted" in to the old stone wall of fortress. Not for the elder people. 2 reasons: stone stairs are for sportsmen, next - the bedroom on the second level of apartment (stone stairs again) is either for solo traveler of for people with no complex. It is a kind of studio with WC practically in the middle, no walls. Nevertheless we liked the place very much. Big living room, well-equipped kitchen, mini bar at reasonable price, small terrace, one bedroom is on the first floor, another bedroom I tried to describe above. Really stylish place.

Room Tip: We saw only one apartment we stayed in. It is very special.

We stayed in an apartment in late February when it was -28 degrees. The friendly receptionist offered hot drinks to warm up whilst we checked in.
To be honest my expectations were low as the website at the time of booking looked a little outdated, however the reception area was modern and clean and then when we walked into our studio apartment I was blown away! Tasteful and modern decoration, big TV, comfy bed.. It was a massive room but with the thick brick walls, curtains and heating it felt warm and cosy, even underfloor heating in the bathroom.
Only a couple of negatives: the TV was on the wall to the left of the bedhead so couldn't watch from bed (and the sofa was complete opposite end of the room so too far away), and the shower was a handheld one in the bath - despite the big bath, my 6" boyfriend struggled to keep water in the bath and almost flooded the bathroom a couple of times when he just wanted a quick shower!
All in all a fab apartment and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again and would recommend to friends and family.

The OldHouse Apartmets staff were so friendly and helpful - they even have us a complimentary bottle of prosecco for our honeymoon :)
The location is great - just 1 minute to the Old Town square right in the heart of Old Town Tallinn.
Wear comfortable shoes as the cobblestones are old & uneven, and if you can pack light or have a backpack style bag - the stairs are steep & old.
The recommendations for restaurants were spot on - always good food & reasonably priced, especially for such a tourist area.
If we come back to Tallinn we'll definitely be staying here!!

Stayed in small apartment Vene 16; although they have numerous and very individual other apartments in their catalogue throughout the old town district. Location in the backyard with external access was a stone throw away from all old town tourist attractions. A couple of lightbulbs didn't work and the bathroom was rather simple im contrast to the nice and charming living room with kitchenette and sitting area. No WiFi there though.

This is a great option to stay in Tallinn - a fully furnished apartment with a kitchen and a very large living area instead of a tiny hotel room and for about the same price. Great option for longer visits and large parties that can't fit one room. But having a good living area you can stay together, have a breakfast, play games, etc. Tea, coffee, range, kettle, fridge. Our apartment on Kinga street was looking brand new. The entrance is right next from the market square - some apartments face the square, some face the quieter back. Everything is nearly perfect and the stuff is very helpful and friendly. The only minor issue is the lack of air conditioning. Window curtains are nice, but light and hardly isolating so on a good summer day, the sun shining into the window could heat the apartment up to 30 C. Given that the Summer is short and that the air is typically cool, it is not an issue for most of the guests. Basically, keep the window open and cold breeze getting in. Just be careful with the external window frames - the inner frames are nice and new, the outer, I guess, should look historic and they barely hold the glass. Another issue for fussy travelers are basic beds and too much sunlight in the morning (as I mentioned, curtains are light). But this is the same for almost all Nordic hotels - only a few can offer you American-quallity bed and light-blocking curtains.

Room Tip: Make sure that you know in which out of many buildings your room is located!
