Description: Believe it or not, but it’s good to be in „Pórgu“. An unbelievably large selection of draught beers and their bottled cousins, unearthly delicious à la carte dishes and an almost holy atmosphere. All this makes „Pórgu“ seem like a paradise on earth, where you can feel free and let yourself be carried away by tasting pleasure. *pórgu in english - hell

“Porgu is a hidden gem!”
Reviewed 30 July 2014

Porgu was great experience from the start, and we return there every time while in Tallinn.
Good choice of local and international beers. Food is basic stuff, but, aaahhh, so tasty! Food made with heart and soul. The chef seems to know what he is doing. Porgu is sort of a cellar- restaurant, quite dark, simple and almost too modest. Perfect place to have a quiet meal, away from all noise and crowds at least during high season.

“Simply amazing except the beef in the borscht”
Reviewed 29 July 2014 via mobile

I haven't eaten beef in years, I don't care for it and don't like the environmental impact it has on this planet. I am well versed on various foods and know what contains need and what tend to be vegan/vegetarian items. Borscht is one of the fool proof, always a vegetable only soup. Until I went to Tallinn. I know I should have double checked but I was too in love with the mead I was drinking. Plus, I thought it would say in the menu that they added meat to a traditionally vegetarian dish.
I was very disappointed to find hunks of meat in my soup, I had to leave the table to vomit to avoid stomach ache.
Regardless of this, the food was excellent. The risotto was great, hearty and filling with decent portions and well plated. The mead was sinfully sweet and ice cold.
Service was brilliant. Despite the meat in my soup, I really enjoyed this.

“Great beer and food in hell!”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

Loved the atmosphere and the beer selection at this cool underground restaurant and bar across the street from a church (and hence the name Põrgu means "hell" in Estonian btw). Had a great selection of beers and I also enjoyed some herring, cheese, and black bread. Cool wrought-iron furniture, lighting, and music gave it a medieval atmosphere. Friendly bartenders were helpful with my broken Estonian and all spoke excellent English as well. I loved this place!

“Best Meal in Europe over the last 3 months”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

This place is amazing! Don't let the low price fool you, this place is gourmet. Nice ambiance, good service, you can tell the food it's cooked to order. If I was in Tallinn longer, I would come back and try other things on the menu.

“Great dinner - again”
Reviewed 19 July 2014 via mobile

Second visit, still a great restaurant. Lots of beers to choose from tab or bottle. Food is great, only desert ice cream left a bit hoping for more. So choose another desert :)
