We used a Tallinn card to join the official tour which is conducted both by bus around the modern city and on foot in the old city. The lady who took our tour spoke excellent English and was extremely enthusiastic about her home city. This was a great way to get to understand both the city and the Estonian culture - try it!
Highly recommend this tour company for a memorable day in Tallinn. We used when on Scandinavian tour and the guide, Eva Maria Egipt Peenmaa (also the owner) was knowledgeable, caring, had excellent English and was good with children. She designed a customized itinerary that made the tour lot of fun for kids. Highly recommend Estonia Experience for tour in Tallinn and other ports of call when cruising in Baltic Sea.
As we arrived in Tallinn at 9.30 am on the ferry from Helsinki and were flying out that night, we decided to return to Helsinki on the 4.30 pm ferry which takes two hours, (boarding 30 minutes before departure), and gave us plenty of time to change clothes and prepare for the long flight to Australia.
The Official Tourist bus seemed our best option as the "on/off" bus took longer to cover the highlights and was dearer anyway.
The language options are great, our bus load was entirely English speaking with an actual tour guide, not just an audio. There were other busses offering other languages too, German, Italian etc. The tour lasts around 1 1/2 to 2 hours with part of it being on the bus and the rest conducted as a walking tour of the old city.
I took this tour today and was quite impressed. We were picked up from outside our Hotel and taken to the main meeting point at Hotel Viru. Our guide (I think she was called Helena) spoke very good English and she was most informative. The bus part of the tour was about an hour and it was worthwhile to see some areas away from the main centre.
The walking part of the tour was excellent and gave a really good insight as to the History of the city without being heavy and dull. Helena pointed out some good places to visit later as well as some recommendations on quaint little places to eat. She was very patient with some of the group who, frankly we're a bit disrespectful, straggling behind what was a nice relaxing paced tour.
I chose this tour as it's included in the Tallin Card list of attractions making it free or with a 50% reduction in cost if another tour is also taken.
Thank you Helena (I hope) for an excellent tour.
