Owner description: This jumble of 14th- and 15th-century architecture with its medieval walls, needling spires and twisting, cobblestone streets is also the site of many of the city's important historic attractions and museums including the House of the Brotherhood of the Blackheads, St. Catherine's Guild and the 15th-century Guildhall that now houses the History Museum.

Though we were only in Tallinn for four hours it was one of the highlights of our tour. We had a wonderful guide who showed us all around the Old Town. Be warned, however, that the walking can be difficult at times as the cobblestone streets are uneven, narrow and very steep. We loved shopping in the quaint little shops. The harbor is beautiful. We took a ferry from Helsinki that was a lot of fun as well. Wish we could have stayed in Tallinn longer!

“What a charming little area!”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

Every corner I took was something new and pretty. I always have a love for old towns in general since we also have a lovely old town in Hanoi, Vietnam where I'm from. But this is really something else! I do wish I had had just one more day without any rush at all so I could just take a walk around the Old Town with a very slow pace to really enjoy the beauty of it.

It's really well preserved and taken care of. There are tons of stores indoor and outdoor with absolutely cheap souvenirs.

Do take a free walking tour around the town which starts at 12 p.m. every day in front of the tourist information office. It's guided by very young university students who have surprisingly sound knowledge about Tallinn and Estonia's history in general. I did enjoy the tour very much.

“Great medieval Baltic city”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

Wondering around in this beautiful town is great fun. The ensemble of old buildings is stunning, a lot of nice workshops, backyard cafés, cozy cellar restaurants and souvenir stands to be visited. Best views from terraces on the Toompea Hill, a city full of history.

Very pretty medieval old town surrounded by city walls. Lots of fascinating streets and lovely buildings. It is mostly cobbled so a bit weary on the feet. Plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes. If you are into old buildings, churches, delightful alleyways then this is for you. Small and compact so not too difficult to get around (with a good map).

“Go with a guide”
Reviewed 15 August 2014

Tallinn's Old Town is rich with history. Take a walking tour with a knowledgeable guide. We walked for an hour and 1/2 and learned a lot. There are few places to sit so you have to be able to walk and stand still listening to a guide. Don't miss walking on the wall of the town.
