Owner description: This onion-domed, Russian Orthodox Church was built in 1900 and named after the Russian hero who defeated the Teutonic Knights in the thirteenth century.

Alexander Nevsky Cathedral dominates the skyline of Tallinn and is a beautiful example of an Orthodox Cathedral. The exterior was being freshly painted while we visited and the golden crosses on the roof top shimmered in the sunlight.

When you near aboout a great orthodox church, you imagine something more impressive. The style is interesting, but inside the cathedral presents nothing unusual. Rather simple, in my view.

This place is well worth a visit, very beautiful and a good example of an orthodox church. However, when we visited it in July it was very crowded with tourists and neither quiet nor peaceful. It may be a good idea to make a visit during off-season in order to get a better experience.

Since this was before we went to St. Petersburg, it was very impressive just to see the Cathedral from the outside. My Dad loves to visit churches and cathedrals and by his standard this place did not disappoint.

Worth the walk up to the Cathedral and you must go inside and explore the entire building, very impressive.

The onion domes may make you feel as if you are in Russia but you are in beautiful Tallinn. The church is a beautiful building and the inside is glorious with gold and mosaic all over. You should not miss this place if you visit Tallinn.
