Radisson Blu Sky Hotel

I stayed here wtih my wife for three nights in April 2005 and the hotel exceeded our expectations.

Having had a special internet deal, we would have been happy with a "standard" room with an unexciting view but, instead, we got given what must have been one of the best rooms in the hotel with superb views over both the old town and the harbour.

The other surprise was the food in the main restaurant. It was consistently excellent and well above my usual experience of food in a "corporate chain" hotel. The service was also polite, efficient and obliging from beginning to end.

The only negative comment I can think of is in relation to the hotel bar, which is rather dingy and in an uninspired location in the hotel lobby.

Although it is fair to say that it is not slap bang in the middle of the old town, the old town is also only a 10 minute walk away. We would definitely stay there again.

This hotel is located at the edge of the central business district of Tallinn, in an area presently undergoing reconstruction. Street access is a bit tricky, since you have to walk a block west in order to cross the busy street in front of the hotel on the way to shopping and the Old Town. Nonetheless the hotel more than met my expectations. I was in a single on an upper floor with a full-on view of the Baltic, which I suppose colors my view, but the room was large, had all the amenities, and the staff was very nice. Breakfast was buffet-style and standard for the hotel chain. It was a great place to crash at the end of the day. Keep in mind that unless you take a cab, there will be some walking involved in staying here--across the street is Tallinn's largest department store, which connects with Viru Centre, a large modern shopping center with supermarket. This connects with the Hotel Viru, in front of which is a traffic circle you need to cross to get to Viru street, which leads into the Old Town. (A block west of the hotel is Coca Cola Center, which contains the multiplex cinema for those so incllined). It's not as complicated as it sounds once you try it, but you won't be running from the Old Town to your hotel more than necessary. As an aside, it takes at least a full day to really see Old Town, and if you can swing an additional day head for the bus station for a daytrip to Tartu, Estonia's university town. The town is nice enough (especially during the Hanseatic Festival at the beginning of July), but the campus area is just wonderful.

Radisson SAS is very modern and functional hotel, mainly catering for business travellers though it's suitable for leisure travellers as well. Rooms are large enough and they are bright and nicely decorated. Staff is very efficient though sometimes you would like to see some smiling too. Breakfast is simply great. Hotel lobby bar service was quite awful.

Now that s what I call a good business hotel!
I travel a lot for my job and I am often very disappointed by hotel chains in Europe.
Well, not this time.
The hotel is a high modern tower with very large rooms that are very clean.
It is quiet, there is a decent gym with machines that work (hurray).
The food is very good and the breakfast has quality products and a lot of choice.
Also it is situated near shopping centres open until 9pm which is convenient and within walking distance of the old town (fairy tale city, lovely).
Also it is reasonably priced.
My only bad point: Wi-fi is only available in the hotel lobby, not in the rooms.

The 24 story high Radisson SAS Hotel is Tallinn's tallest building. Try to get a room with an even room number; those overlook the beautiful Old Town. Rooms come in different decors, such as Maritime, Italian or Oriental. I had an absolutely quite, spotlessly clean and well appointed corner room. Breakfast was good, as was the location one block away from a state-of-the-art shopping mall and only five minutes away from the walls of Old Town. Not so good was the sometimes smoke filled lobby (coming from the often crowdy lobby bar). Staff in general could be a little more cheerful and smiling, but that seems to be a general problem in Tallinn - coming from a member of a people which is not exactly famous for enthusiastic service, this should mean something! ;-) Perhaps it's because the Estonians still are a little insecure using English?!
