Barons is perfectly located for the Old Town, unique atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff.
The rooms are far too small as are the beds but you can upgrade to a suite for 40 euros a night.
The breakfast and evening meal are basic but home cooked and good quality. Some fresh fruit at breakfast and a little better presentation would make both meals more appealing. The staff are very helpful and really try to make you comfortable.
BUT I could never recommend Baron's to anyone as the noise from the two bars opposite means you will never have a good night's sleep. It was mid week in December when I stayed and each night the noise continued 'til six sometimes seven in the morning, how the local authorities allow such places in the beautiful old town is beyond me.

Hotel staff was excellent and hotel was unique and historic. Our double room was very nice and beautiful. Beds were too soft, like bad waterbeds. Food was good, not too many options thou. Location was excellent.

But then... there were HORRIBLE noise of music and drunken people! It was a shame! No sleeping well at all!!! There were earplugs offered by the hotel and a little bit wondering it after arriving. You really should not need those if hotel would be calm. It is a pity because otherwise it would of be a very nice experience.

The central location in the Old Town makes this hotel a good choice for a stay in Tallinn. The Hotel itself is an historic gem and the staff helpful in every way.

The (inexpensive) airport transfer that I had arranged with the Hotel several weeks earlier went smoothly and the staff arranged a taxi to takes us to the bus station on our departure.

The complimentary afternoon tea is a nice touch, in our case coffee and muffins, as is the complimentary dinner buffet. Be warned, though, that the dinner choices are limited and that better is available outside the Hotel. We had the dinner on our arrival day only. On the other hand the breakfast buffet is excellent, with sufficient choice to suit all tastes.

I had concerns about noise, given the comments of other reviewers. And yes, noise from nearby bars and early morning street cleaning was a problem, but not to the extent that we couldn't sleep or had to use the ear plugs provided. However our stay was outside peak season (late Sep) and did not include a weekend. It might be a different story at these peak times. Specify an inside room if this is a major concern.

I have just returned from Tallinn after a Monday to Wednesday stay at the hotel and can heartily recommend it. The staff was excellent and unfailingly courteous and helpful throughout the stay. The inclusive breakfast, buffet supper and coffee and cake in the afternoon were very welcome and I found the selection and quality of the food to be above the average listed in some of the reviews below. I stayed in the Barons suite which was tastefully decorated in a style reminiscent of the 1930s, green acanthus leaf wallpaper, black and white tiled bathroom (with an adjoining sauna room) and brown leather seating, the view of medieval town hall tower from the windows of my room were, pardon the cliché, fairy tale. Personally I had no problem falling and remaining asleep, although my companion did complain of a disturbance outside the hotel on Tuesday night, unfortunately featuring some of our compatriots.

Seven of us came to Tallinn to celebrate an 80th birthday. Through a shipingline we tried to
chose a suitable hotel in the Old Town. We couldn't have chosen a better one to suite
our needs. Very friendly service and as an extra bonus the complementary dinner buffet and
afternoon caffee/tea. It contributed to make our celebration a success.
