“Good Hotel, at the edge of being too far from center”
Reviewed 8 July 2013

Hotel is simple, but very clean, room we had was big, reception very friendly, sold us drinks although bar was officially closed. Only slight disadvantage is the distance to the center. Center is easy to find and reach within 10-15 minutes of walking, but for people, that do not like walking, I would not pick it. Another slight diadvantage is that one side of the hotel is towards a very busy road. Cannot open windows early morning or early evening due to traffic. But got very good sleep until 7:30 in the morning.

Room Tip: Select rooms away from the main road.

The sauna, spa and treatments (highly recommended - very small but gives you a lot intimacy and relaxation)

Restaurant downstairs had really good quality of food.

Basically It's been already a few weeks from our visit to Kreutzwald and I still can't get over how great this place was. We needed a few day break from work and our daily routine and Tallinn seemed close enough and still undiscovered. I spent some time trying to find a please which would be close to everything but still away from the typical big city crowd - I wasn't hoping for such combination I must say Kreutzwald was perfectly what I was looking for! Amazing! Relatively small hotel located near the old town. So a perfect combination.

I have stayed in probably thousands of hotels around the world throughout my much travelled life and it is sadly very rare that one comes across a place that seems to surpass all expectations. However Kreutzwald Hotel is most certainly one of those special places, one where the entire team truly understand how important it is to make their guests feel valued and special.

Stayed here with my wife a couple a months ago. It is not far from the center if you have a car, but i can say it is defenitely away if you are a pedestrian. It doesen't matter if you have "shortcuts" to the city or the hotel says they are in the central city area. Free parking was nice and it offered a good breakfast, nothing large scale, but we ate our stomaches full. The girl in the reservation was not rude, but not very cheerful either. Maybe she just had a gloomy day.
The zen suite we had was quiet. For the price they are asking for it you'll get a very poor room. The bedsheets were clean but the bed itself was a low quality standard bed. The couch was afwul. I am horrified to think it might been a sofabed. It looks good, how can it feels like you are sitting in a rock??? The zen luxury suite with a jacuzzi means that you have a bit larger bathroom and a good looking bathtub with bubbles. There is absolutely nothing other "zen" about this room. It is heavily overpriced standard room. Dissapointed.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the big street might be quite noisy I would think.

Dear Juha,

thanks for your review. re the location the hotel is a 9 min walk to the freedom square past the national library, there are no shortcuts it is a straight walk with no turns, please see google maps .

To the west of the hotel about 350 metres is the largest shopping centre in Tallinn , the Kristiine centre so for the price of the hotel, which is considerably less than hotels in the old town the location is ideal for some. The parking you mentioned is available as we are not in the old town , non of the hotels in the old town have parking.
I am sorry the Zen room did not come up to expectations , we have had fantastic reviews about these rooms , the sofa bed is actually very comfortable if you had tried it.
Please contact me and I will make sure next time you visit you have a wonderful stay with us.

We thought this was a good option outside the old city. The hotel was ok, but the feeling was that it tried to be fancier than it was. The woman at the reception desk seemed not to be able to solve any problems by herself (long calls to the management, it seemed), which had a negative impact on the service.
The room was fine (although not very well cleaned, rubbish under the bed etc.) but the breakfast could have been better.
Also, the hotel is maybe not in the most interesting area of Tallinn. We didn't find any very nice restaurants or cafés nearby. A good thing was, that the lovely Kalamaja area is not far away.

Hello , thanks for your review. I am sorry for the experience you had , I noticed you stayed in the hotel in April this year, I have sent you a message to ask for more details but have not had a reply, as it is very difficult to find out what actually happened 2 months ago. Since you stayed we have fully renovated our spa , and renovated and relauched the restaurant with new fresh local concept , with a completely new team , this included a full upgrade of the breakfast.

I think it is always usefull for all parties to let us know immediately if you have any issues with the hotel and we can resolve immediatley, 2 months is a little too long unfortunatley as a lot can change in the structure and facilities of a hotel, and in the Kreutzwald Hotel this is definately the case.

We booked in this hotel Zen Double room for two nights. The room was small and uncomfortable without sitting area, large bathroom with simple spa bath, without extra bath amenities. We were waiting couple hours for shower gel, shower caps, bathrobe and slippers. The bed was comfortable, it was very hot in the room, air conditioner functioned poorly. Coffee/ tea maker facilities, computer in the room. Wi-Fi is available in the room and was free of the charge. Hotel's location is near the Tallinn old city, walking distance 7 -10 min, easy to find. Good small parking, additional cost 9 EUR. Breakfast was good. Value for money is inadequate for service and hotel's star rate.

Room Tip: Rooms on the street side are noisy

The Kreutzwald is a good hotel, well-equipped and well run, it's only disadvantage being position, some 10-15 minutes' walk from the old town. Given this, and the lack of any nearby food and drink outlets, you might think that the hotel would be keen to make such provision, and although there is a restaurant, we were told the bar would not open until July. Why? Breakfasts were good and varied, although the servery layout could do with a bit of thought. TV and PC in every room, free WiFi everywhere. Generally friendly staff.

hello, thanks for the review. We are actually only 300 yards from the biggest shopping centre in Tallinn with many bars and restaurants, instead of turning right to the old town you must turn right to the Kriistine Centre. We give a orientation sheet on arrival , i would be keen to know if you were given one? We have a new restaurant and bar called Niipernadi in the hotel which focuses on fresh local Estonian cuisine , using fresh products from our eco farm on the northern coast in Vihula Manor, it has an area for the bar also. The Kreutzwald Library will open on the 20th June after a small cosmetic upgrade, so we will have 2 bars , one with a pleasant lounge feel , the other is part of our populat restaurant. I am sorry our communication seems to have not been so clear but i hope you re-visit soon.
thanks
