“pleasant and good location”
Reviewed 17 October 2011

This hotel is comfortable, clean and unpretentious. The staff were courteous and helpful. The location is ideal for access to the Old Town and all the major City sights of interest. The restaurant/bar is in the basement and offers hearty reasonably priced food. Watch out as you may get a twin room which is classed as a double! This hotel is ideal if you want to spend most of your time out and about and are not looking for a place to spend relaxing in lounges etc. A comfortable stay for us nonetheless

Room Tip: if you want a double bed reserve this in advance or you may end up in a twin.

The hotel was clean, cosy and in a great location-less than a 10 minute walk from the Old Town. The rooms had a spacious shower-room, TV and mini-bar fridge (which has a key so it doubled up as a safe!) I was not bothered about watching TV, but in case you are interested, the channels included BBC news and MTV. The best thing was the large, grand windows with a big enough ledge to put all your pillows on and sit there writing your postcards, which felt very cosy when it was raining. The staff were really friendly and helpful, (particularly with directions and booking us a tour of the hotel where the KGB had their secret headquarters!) We spent ages over our breakfast because there was a wide choice, cold hams and cheeses, cereals, fruit salad, a range of eggs, juices, jams, breads (eg: black Estonian bread) and pancakes! And you could have hot milk, cold milk OR cream in your coffee. Don't know if this is standard but that to me is proper service and makes me feel like I am really on holiday!
I only felt sorry for the restaurant staff who were dressed in some odd Germanic folk costume.
I would definitely reccommend this hotel.
.

Room Tip: Rooms on ground floor seemed more spacious.

Stayed here for 2 nights with partner and teenage daughter, hotel was lovely, rooms clean, staff were lovely and helpful and had a really nice buffet breakfast with plenty of choice, felt we definately got a bargain, would stay here again, good location as well, bathroom was a wetroom with under floor heating, only complaint and its a minor one was the duvet on the bed could have been bigger

Stayed here for four nights over the Christmas period. I absolutely agree with other reviewers that this hotel feels like more than a three-star. It's on a quiet street just accross the road from the old town, but easy to reach by cab. I love the high ceilings and grand windows. The bathrooms are spaceous, wi-fi is reliable, service is polite and efficient, breakfast is good. All round I was very happy with the choice.

My boyfriend and I spent 3 nights with St. Barbara from 22.8 - 25.8, we chose the double superior room from the Romance Package on their website. Check-in was a breeze and the front desk was friendly and helpful, we were very early as we arrived by ferry, but they had a locked room where we could keep our luggage. They had our room ready within an hour though, so we were quite pleased.

Our room was large, very nicely decorated, and comfortable. Our package was supposed to come with sparkling wine and fruit, we never got the fruit though, which was a little disappointing, though the wine was really good! The hotel had free WiFi, and it was a nice, strong signal. The TV in our room was huge, my guy was very happy about that, although it makes me want to lower their rating!! (Just kidding, it was nice).

The room was a little hot, the air conditioning wasn't great, but totally bearable. They did have a large fan in the room so it was fine. The bathroom still has a faint bad smell though, as described in other reviews.

The staff was continuously friendly, the customer service was more than adequate, and language wasn't a problem. The hotel is located on a little side street and was very quiet and peaceful at night, which is perfect after walking in Old Town all day and then being in the nightclubs most of the evening! The breakfast provided by the restaurant downstairs was pretty good, it had enough variety and was pretty tasty. It was a typical hot breakfast buffet, and a good way to start the day.

You can't find a better location than St. Barbara! You walk out the door and down the stairs that leads underneath the street, and you come up right at Old Town, yet you miss all the tourist noise, so it was perfect for us. I plan on visiting Tallinn again, and I will definitely stay with St. Barbara, you just can't beat their price and location considering how comfortable the hotel is. We had a great time and completely enjoyed our stay.

This hotel is just opposite Freedom Square which leads to the main square which takes no more than 10 minutes to walk. The staff were friendly, hotel clean, quiet both inside the hotel and outside as it is situated on a side street. Our room had everything that we needed. Even though there wasn't tea/coffee making facilities in the room, reception had a machine where drinks could be purchased. Around the corner was a kiosk where we could buy all types of snacks. The Beer Keller, where we had breakfast and dinner one evening, is very authentic, welcoming, food is very good even for those who do not eat meat. The hotel does not charge clients to use the internet, which is a bonus.

Visitors should visit Kadriorg Palace which is on the outskirts of Tallinn; absolutely beautiful.

We caught the shuttle bus from and to the airport which was only 2 euros each way. The bus stop was less than a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

The only down side regarding the hotel was that as we had warm weather, the bedroom was warm and thinner duvets or top sheets would have been preferred.

The souvenir shops in Tallinn are very expensive. We were told by a fellow travellor at the airport that she had visited a town outside Tallinn and the prices were much cheaper. Tallinn is the city of culture for 2011 but it isn't being promoted enough and the prices need to be reduced in the shops to encourage people to buy.

Room Tip: We were on the 4th floor and so had no one above us. Our room overlooked the side street i.e. front...
