The marina is a convenient option to the expensive one downtown, The Kalev Yacht Club, serves excellent lunches and dinners and the beaches to the south of the harbor are marvelous.

I wanted to see the ruins of the convent in Pirita so we made an effort to get there with the bus. It was interesting and there weren't many people there so it was nice and peaceful and we were able to walk among the ruins and appreciate the remaining structure. We went to have a look at Pirita beach as well which didn't look like much to be honest, a bit of a sad-looking beach with scatterings of people - perhaps it gets more happening during the weekends? We alighted from the bus back halfway through the journey and had a nice walk along the coast towards the Rusalka Memorial. It was a really pleasant stroll, with a nice view of Old Tallinn's skyline. I would recommend a trip out to Pirita to get away from the mad crowds and chillax!!

Being 700 kilometres from the sea, the Moscow Olympic commitee had to find a salt water yachting venue.
They choose Pirita Marina, and the 1980 Olympic site in Tallinn still proudly shows the games emblem for those controversial games.
This site is showing its age with paint peeling, and some concrete missing, but it is still a viable marina capable of berthing 750 yachts.
This was a nice interesting detour, but nothing more than that.

Spent a couple of days on the beach at Pirita, the beach is lovely and quieter than most (though Sundays can be a different matter when the locals descend in numbers). And how often do you get to paddle in the Baltic?

Strange atmosphere if you look at the athletes residence. There are ruine of an ancient convent. And there is a nice promenade. To do if you did all the rest, but not as a priority.
