We had room 008 at the bottom of the stairs. it was fine and was the requested quiet room and considering the early booking non. ref. rate we got we were happy. Staff were ok but noticed that the FO staff were busy chatting most of the day to other (hskp?) staff. as a result our room didn;t get serviced till late in the afternoon - not a problem though. breakfast was fine. location excellent for the old town and viking line ferry (12 min. walk).

I was in room 201 near the top of the stairs, the room was very small with a window that looked onto a wall that was within 2 feet, no aircon which made sleeping very difficult, the reception did provide a fan when I requested one.The dining room was a bit overcrowded but I started having breakfast within the last 30 mins of allocated time and the food right up to the cut-off time was still provided fresh and the staff were very pleasant.

Room Tip: get one with a window veiw, and request a fan upon arrival

Very nice when you are looking something cosy and romantic! Location is excellent whether just walking in the old town or shopping in the harbour. Rooms a bit small and lack of air conditioning might be a problem in very hot summer weather. Everything very spick ´n span!
The only thing I did miss was help with the luggage (4th floor and no elevator) but otherwise good for conditioning!

Since we booked this hotel long before our trip we got a really god deal, therefore we can overlook some of the flaws compared to what we paid for our stay.

However, it doesn't meet a four-star European hotel standard in all aspects.

To begin with the hotel didn't have any air condition anywhere, not in any room, any hallway or the breakfst/dining room. This was a major flaw, since we visited the hotel in the middle of May and the weather was pretty nice. I can only imagine how hot it must be during the summer.

First we got a really small room, with a window what you couldn't open, and we spent our first (of three) nights sweating and woke up tired and irritated.

The second morning we asked if we could change to a room with a window but were told that there were 'almost' no rooms that had windows. We then asked for a fan and were told that the staff would put one in our room. We realized that their conception of fans were small, loud heating fans where you could switch off the heat. That was not close to a real fan anyway, so we complained to the staff and finally managed to get a room with a window instead, which was great. So our last two nights were way better.

The breakfast buffé was pretty okay, but didn't meet a four-star European breakfast buffé, more like a three-star buffé.

The staff were not the most service minded or friendly staff we've met, but they were okay.

On the plus side, the beds were great! Actually the best hotel beds we've slept in.
The lighting in the bathroom wasn't the best but the overall standard of the room (the room with a window that is) was really nice.

Without the disappointment from the first night we would have given this hotel a 4/5 rating.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a room with a window if you plan to stay during the summer! Also, be sure not...

Gotthard residence is at the end of Pikk street, but there is only 10 min walk to the main square. (Looks further on the map)
We stayed in rooms 105 and 106 right behind the breakfast room. The rooms are small, but big enough. The residence has been refurbished not long ago, and it is very cosy and nice interiour.Water came dripping from the room above (in the corner by the door), but I told the reseption and then it stopped.
The breakfast was ok, but just that.
All in all the residence was very good, and we didnt mind that we got another hotel.
Would stay there again

Room Tip: The rooms on the first floor is very quite

The hotel is situated conveniently in old town but in walking disance from harbour also. Quiet and new rooms, friendly staff. The breakfast full and fresh and tasty. Thick walls and beautiful furniture with big paintings make lovely athmosphere. Beds with soft mattresses.

Room Tip: Hard stairs so not suitable for every one

Spend a weekend in Tallinn on February in Gotthard Residence. Hotel had an attempting offer and reading reviews it seemet to be a lovely hotel to us. What a mistake!

First: We arrived late by the ferry and got a tiny room in the attack. No window, no air, no room to two people to move or settle in. We wanted to have another room, which was ok.

But in the morning seemed that you couldn´t take a shower because of some sort of plumbing problems. Water covered the whole bathroom.

The third issue was poor brakfast: almost nothing fresh, poor coffee and dry bread. It seemed like they did't even care.

Worst thing wast poor service. No good mornings or smile. No reason to go back to this kind of hotel.

Fortunately there's so many lovely hotels in Tallinn!
