Description: Located under the 12th Century Raekoda (Town Hall) building in the main square of Old Town Tallinn, Kolmas Dragon (or the Third Dragon) is a small medieval-themed tavern. This charming eatery with its beautiful-period interior is hosted daily by a group of petulant housekeepers whose job it is to entertain all-comers with their brusque and rude service manner. However this is all purely theatrical - a style that is closer to the behaviour that one would have received in the medieval ages. Specialities that are served include beef ribs, elk soup, savoury pastries, pickles from a barrel, teas, wines and the famous house beer. All those who enter should therefore be ready for not only tasty foods and beverages but also to some exceptionally entertaining service.

Rude service, only a few things on the menu, no utensils, some food scraps on the floor, dark and dingy.. LOVED IT... All the the things I just mentioned are on purpose because they are an 'authentic medieval tavern' complete with cranky wench waitresses... Don't bother visit if you are going to complain about these things. Go if you want to experience something different. I actually loved the Elk Soup..

Its true that this place offers good elk soup which would be an attraction for many travelers. They also offer a variety of veg and non-veg pies all at very reasonable prices. However, go prepared for very nasty, rude service with dreadful attitude from the girls working there. I can see that some of the reviewers below have said that this is part of some kind of play-acting to go along with the medieval atmosphere inside but from what we saw, it didn't seem like anything other than bad manners and terrible customer service.
One of the girls behind the counter who was not doing anything snapped at me when I asked her what were the different pie fillings they offered! This, even though there was no board explaining what was on offer. When I asked again at the counter, the girl behind the till roughly pointed to the baskets next to her and barked, "Look at the pictures". These pictures were hand-drawn scribbles at best and its still hard to make out what is in these pies.
In any case, I ordered and took our food outside to eat it. Not 5 minutes later, as we were eating, I heard the girl behind the till harshly scolding another customer who thought it was a self-service place where he had to pick out the pies which he wanted. Her final judgment on the matter to him was, "If you don't understand how the system works, you shouldn't travel in the first place!"
It was so sad to see such unpleasantness in the otherwise friendly little city of Tallinn. So go at your own risk.

We were surprised at how good the food was here! The location and atmosphere could have easily suggested a tourist trap, but everything from the soup to the pies were great. Prices were cheap and it was really fun to eat in a medieval room. There is not a large menu; just soup and maybe six types of pies (sweet and savory options), but definitely worth a stop for a quick, reasonably priced and filling bite to eat. Actually thinking about the soup makes me realize that this would probably be one of my first stops should I ever visit Old Town Tallinn again.

We travelled to Tallinn in frosty February and III Draakon was perfect for a quick warming meal! We sat by candlelight and ate delicious meat and apple pies, elk soup, and beer (with free pickles!) and couldn't have asked for more, really. It was so cheap and yet cosy and delicious - we went back twice.

I love this little gem in the ancient square of the old town. Perfect Elk soup and pies served in rustic earthenware crockery, all washed down with a hot, foamy, treacly dark beer. Lovely medieval furnishings and roaring fires. Cheap as chips too, you can't really go wrong. A welcome shelter from the soul freezing December winds!
