Other reviewers hit it spot on. Rooms are smaller than tiny & management is not terribly responsive. Location good, wifi in lobby fast - but only one terminal. Hotel is new & clean. Breakfast buffet worst of any we had in 30 days of travel in Russia & the Baltics. We arrived 30 minutes after opening - some items were depleted & staff wouldn't refill even after we asked - and there was still 2 hours left for breakfast time!

If you're a 21 year old backpacker then this hotel is heaven. If you're a mature traveler it is torture.

We booked a superior (larger) room & was shown a 4th floor double others have described - undersized (about 26 inches)twin beds (not a double) pushed against the wall with a sloping ceiling that meant we had to duck as we walked around the room. The inside sleeper had to climb over the other to get in/out of bed. Again, if your'e 21 great fun, if , on the other hand you're a mature adult, and the inside sleeper & need to get up during the night to urinate, then you wake the outside sleeper. The room was so small that we could not both open our carry-ons and still walk around the bed. The room was stifling - one tiny window that overlooked a construction zone.

Manager then showed us a family room in the basement which we took. BIG MISTAKE - we should have opened the window first. The lone small window faced the outside rim road & you might as well have been center city during rush hour - traffic lasted all thru the night. Of course, closing the window stopped the traffic noise, but then there was no air.

For about 10 Euros more a night we moved to the 4 star Taanilinna - heaven!

The rooms are small, we were on the 4th floor, double, two twins pushed together one up against the wall. Our friend's twin meant that one of them had to remember to duck to avoid hitting the sloping ceiling when getting in/out of bed! Breakfast is to be avoided. No refrigeration to note, food is left out with no sneeze barriers. As the meal is served from 7 till 10 I wondered about ambient temperatures and two hour time limits. Location is fine. Staff not so friendly and the whole place lacks atmosphere, no comfy lounge area but not a bad location.
Food in Tallinn seems to be served at luke warm temperatures and would advise travellers to ask for piping hot meals, to avoid travellers tummy....
The city tour bus is to be recommended, do visit the tourist info centre for best advice.

Charming hotel and integrated into the ancient city wall of Tallinn. Clean and cosy and eye for detail. The only drawback were the small rooms, although very clean. There are larger and more expensive Bella Vista rooms, but still.
Better suited for single travellers.
Location is great and atmosphere very pleasant.

I read the previous review before I went, and I wholeheartedly agree -- the hotel is cute and conveniently located just past the entrance to Old Town. The lobby and restaurant are modern and nicely done and will set your room expectations high. We got what they called the "family room" which was on the basement level. It was spacious and adequate but nothing to write home about. The breakfast was very good.

Beware of the rude taxi drivers! We had to tell our driver from the airport several times which Meriton we were going to. He was extremely surly and refused to make change for the equivalent of $10 USD when we paid him. Fortunately, the hotel is a short walk to the ferry terminal.

The Old Town is great! You will love it. Definitely grab a late night dinner at Hell Hunt (a pub a short walk from the hotel). The place was jam packed on a late Tuesday night and the food was inexpensive and excellent. The local beer was good too.

Superb location for Old Town however the rooms are extremely small, we enjoyed fine dry weather when we visited last week but I could see that in inclement times they would prove uncomfortable, the en suite bathroom must have been created by an expert in miniturisation.
That said the staff are generally friendly, helpful & speak excellent English
Room cost was reasonable at about 85 euros per room per night including breakfast(we werea couple in a "double"room) which was a buffett & offered a good varieaty but get down before 10-00 as at 5 minutes past the hour everything is swept away to make the restaurent ready for the public.

We stayed in Meriton old town hotel in July 2006 for 5 nights. As my family are motorbike mad, the main reason for the trip was to make a visit to the place where our dear friend, the great Joey Dunlop had fatally crashed during the Tallinn road race in July 2000.

The hotel reception was clean and quite modern, this lulls you into a false sense of security....then you see your room! We were all in doubles, (floors 1, 2 and 3!) but in reality these were more like single rooms. The decor is anything but modern, but the rooms were relatively clean despite the awful smell which sometimes came from the bathrooms.. note this was from all 3 bathrooms!

The breakfast room serves as a cafe to the outside visitor and also serves as a lounge/bar. The breakfasts were included and had a good array of food. The staff were pleasant so overall it was a pleasant enough stay. The hotel is in a brilliant location in the old part of the town, just a stroll to join the nightlife down the street.

Be aware of the very rude taxi drivers who are determined to rip you off!
I would stay here again, but would like a more realistic sized double room!

We stayed at the Meriton Old Town Hotel for a week.
It was situated in a very central and convenient location. The rooms were small but comfortable and clean. The staff were pleasant and helpful.
We stayed bed and breakfast, and found the breakfast adequate.
This hotel has only a small bar area ( which is also the reception ) so we never saw anyone drinking in the hotel.
If you want a quiet hotel, look no further! This is the one for you! We didnt hear a sound all week. We slept undisturbed all night. We didnt hear a voice or a door closing or anything.
Maybe it wouldnt suit people wanting a more lively atmosphere, but it suited us perfectly.
