I stayed here for two nights in July 2013. The room was okay; however, it was very warm inside at the time. Given the lack of air conditioning, I opened the one open-able window into the room. However, given that the ferry terminal is right across the street, opening the window let in loud noises that made it even more difficult to sleep. The hotel's also a bit of a hike away from the old city. Nonetheless, it was convenient because of its proximity to the ferry terminal; also, it only cost me €8 to get a taxi to take me to the airport from the hotel.

Stayed for 3 nights in May 2013. The hotel is a short walk from the old town and just across the street from the ferry terminal. The HOHO bus also stops just across the street from the hotel. It was also convenient to have a reasonably priced casual restaurant on sight although the breakfast wasn't very good. My plane arrived at around 10 AM and when I showed up at the hotel at 1030 I was told I should have come later. I think the language barrier may have made this sound more rude than it was attended but they did have a luggage room until I could check in. The TV left something to be desired for an English only speaker but I didn't come here to watch Television. All in all, not bad but I would probably look for something else if I were to visit Tallinn again.

Dear Mike,

Thank you for your feedback!

I assure you that both your positive comments and the critique will be noted and taken into account.

As for the English barrier I can only promise you that we are doing our best every day to be and sound polite in our native tongue as well as in foreign languages. Thank you for being understanding about that!

I do believe that when you visit Tallinn our english as well as our quality will be up to par and further even!

Kind regards,
Maiken

Wasn't informed beforehand about the check-in being at 3 pm so had to wait for the room. The hotel info book said the check-in is at 2 pm so inconsistencies.

Room was bad. We reserved a double, got a twin. Beds were cheap, pillows were non-existent. Walls were orange with lots of dents and marks of liquid been thrown on them. Bathroom had lots of hairs from previous occupants. We mentioned about this to the hotel and even after the cleaning crew had been to the room there was still some hairs. Not so many though.

Windows had red shades, so it was either light in the room or turn the room completely red. Normal curtains are probably too expensive? Won't work in their decor?

Bathroom had been built bad, so water filled the whole floor. No shower door to stop it, floors not taking the water into the drains. Drains also very slow to drain the water. Showerhead horrible.

Satellite tv? Yeah, sure. But the tv is a 12" CRT that is in the ceiling far away from the beds, so you won't have any use for it. Channels weren't as advertised on the info booklet but that didn't much bother us.

No minibar. Two bottles of sparkling water, room temperature. 2€/bottle.

Breakfast buffet was ok. Eggs, sausages, meatballs, bread, cereals, müsli, juices, coffee and tea.

For me the room and hotel screamed of "just for drunken Finns" and I have a strong feeling that we might've been thought to be that kind of people and put into a bad room since other reviewers clearly have had better rooms.

The hotel is a bit far from the center, but we had no problem walking there. It's right next to one of the terminals, so it's noisy if you open the window (it can only be opened a bit). Window closed we heard practically nothing and the terminal is quiet in the evening, so no problem. Air conditioning unit worked ok, but it's impossible to use in the night since it's not silent and it blows the air directly on the beds.

Dear Symbiatc,

Thank you for being honest and sharing your thoughts!

I am very sorry that you did not find City Hotel Portus satisfactory, of course, and I apologize for the shortcomings on our part.

But I can assure you that we do not make any assumptions about our guests based on their habits or nationality. We thrive for the best possible outcome daily and although we everyone has their worse days I believe that we could have done much more to please you.

I hope you had a great time in Tallinn overall and that you will take the opportunity to visit us once more in the future so we can improve and make your stay splendid.

All the best,
Maiken

This hotel was ideally situated for my purposes as I was also visiting Helsinki. Easily reachable from the airport (number 2 bus stops right outside) and right by the ferry port, the hotel is only a 10 minute walk from the Old Town and there is a shopping mall only 3 minutes away. The hotel itself is nothing special to look at but the rooms are comfortable enough for a short stay, the staff are really helpful and breakfast is very good both in terms of choice and quantity. All in all this hotel gives excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Tallinn is a working port so rooms at the front can get pretty noisy at night - bring earplugs and l...

Was looking for a place to take a shower, ended up checking in to the City Hotel.
Overall a nice clean although basic hotel, 10 minutes walk from the old town and right next to the ferry terminal.
Certainly met my needs, however i did find it rather noisy - both due to the port forklifts and noisy neighbours. Don't like to sleep with the windows closed!
Staff were friendly although was asked to pay a further €6 for an hour early check in. Never had to do that in more expensive hotels.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are probably quieter, but no view!
