This is a great little find. Location is the best in town, right off the main square. Boutique-feel, tastefully renovated to accommodate some of the original features, and helpful staff.

There's no lift, but the staff carried our bags up and down for us. The Ice Bar and breakfast are excellent, as is the sauna which you can book for private use with 1.5 hours notice.

Our room was very comfortable, although an extra couple of towels and bedside table would have been useful.

I stayed here with a friend over the weekend of Oct 12-15. First the positives -- The location is great, just steps away from the main square and walking distance from all the sights in the Old Town. Building has been tastefully restored.

I booked through HotelsEstonia.com and while I requested a room with 2 beds this message never got through to the hotel. When we arrived Friday night there was a double bed in the room. Next morning the staff said they would try to move us to another room but that fell through too. The staff were young and enthusiastic but quite inexperienced.

This wasn't my first trip to Tallinn and I found this hotel expensive and over-rated by Tallinn standards. Next time I would go back to the SAS Radisson

We stayed at this hotel for three nights on the second leg of our Baltic tour. We had two standard rooms that were adjacent but not inter-connecting. The rooms overlooked the courtyard at the back of the hotel and were very quiet - you would never guess that there is an enormous beer cellar on the other side of the street that closes at 4am!

The rooms were not the biggest but were fine for our purposes, with good sized bathrooms, although our air conditioning units made some odd noises which kept us amused!

The hotel is just a few metres away from the old town square and most of the major sights are within 10 minutes walk. It's a great place to pop in and out of during the day and provides a relaxing oasis of calm and refreshment.

The staff were very helpful with advice on our day trip to Finland and organised the purchase of our 'Tallinn Cards' which we found very useful. We saved a lot of time and effort fumbling for cash by just showing the cards to gain entry to many museums etc. Service in the courtyard was ok but we sat for an extended period when waiting in the cafe area for a lunch menu. In the end we had to find a member of staff and after that the service was as you would expect. A minor gripe really.

Breakfast was buffet-style and was very good with plenty of choice.

We would definitely stay here again and would love to see Tallinn when the Christmas markets are open.

We stayed at the Merchants House from 18-22 October and had a wonderful time. We booked the Summer (now Winter!) special and tagged an extra day on. For this we got a gift, a tour from a local guide, transport to and from the airport, and a 'romantic' three course meal and bottle of wine.
The transfer was smooth (if not free flowing conversationally!) and book in was easy. We had been upgraded to a suite with our own sauna - a nice touch as we had booked a few months in advance. We chose this hotel largely on the basis of the reviews on TripAdvisor and what we wanted (location, atmosphere, facilities). Our room (suite!) was large, spacious and warm (bit of a necessity as it was getting nippy outside). Bathroom divine - bath, sauna, and an awesome shower.
We had a courtyard facing room (we asked for this after reading previous reviews suggesting this!) and it was fabulously quiet which we wanted. The hotel location is perfect - close to the square and numerous restaurants and bars/cafes. The local guides tip of the "C'est La Vie" cafe (not the more expensive restaurant downstairs) was spot on - we chose the recommended mushroom soup (with puff pastry top) and were suitably VERY impressed. It truly was amazing. We also stopped by for dinner too and that was great (not as outstanding as the soup - but culinary perfection like that is hard to find!).
The local guide was great and not only did we get explanations of location and history (great photos!) - but the other shopping and culinary advice was also much appreciated.
We didn't have the time to try the 'fried egg' restaurant around the corner - but it was packed whenever we popped by - they must be doing something right. The Hotel 'romantic dinner' food was excellent, good choice of wines to select for the free bottle - it just needed a bit more atmosphere. Breakfasts were also good whatever time we arrived (we were not always early risers!). The staff always were very helpful.
My only disappointment was we never got the beauty/spa treatments I had craved... our own fault for not booking early enough.
Beware the week-end influx and make those beauty bookings early! Staff are lovely, Tallinn was beautiful and we had a great time - I'd recommend it!

This is the second time my wife and I have had the pleasure of staying in Merchant House.
The 1st time was two years ago after we been married in Tartu, so seeing as we were back in Tallinn close to our wedding anniversary we decided to stay again.
Once again they did not disapoint.
The location of the Hotel is outstanding, only a 2 min walk to the Square of the Old Town and Molly Molones Irish Bar!
The room was lovely, b'fast was good and the overall service was excellent.
A special "Thank You" for Eeva in sales who looked after the reservation for me. This is the second she has bent over backwards to look after us.
