“Wonderful find in Tallinn”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

We decided to go back to Tallinn one last time before heading home. As we are now on holiday, we also decided not to rush and be able to see more of Tallinn than when we were there in March. I was able to book the Merchant's House, expecting that the rooms shown on the website would not be in our price range. Was I wrong!
We had a very comfortable KING sized bed in a room larger than any other we have had in Europe. It had a BATHTUB, which after 6 months in Helsinki, was the best part! The staff was warm and wonderful. We ate mostly also at the hotel, and were impressed by the breakfast. At the end of the second day, we decided to go back to the hotel for lunch. Bob was not feeling well, so I asked the waitress if she could find some hot water and bay leaves to make him tea. She did!!! Thanks to her and her boss for being such gracious hosts. We will tell everyone to stay there!

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, ask for room at back of the house. There is a popular Beer Hall across t...

Dear Bob & Beth,

Thank you very much for your positive review. I and my staff are happy to hear you have enjoyed your stay with us from all aspects.

Over 65% of the rooms in the Merchants House Hotel have baths. This is very unusual as the majoriety of Tallinn hotels cater for the Finnish and Scandinavian (i.e. showers units only)

It was lovely to speak to both of you on the hotels summer terrace. I was sorry that bob was not feeling well.

I hope that you enjoyed the rest of your trip and your journey home

Kind Regards

Jonathan Poole

We stayed here for 2 nights in May. We would recommend the executive rooms for their spacious size and amenities. We had a tub that was large enough to accommodate a couple. One section of our wall was the original fresco from the 14th century. The hotel is located about 1/2 block away from the main square, and within a few minute walk of the train and tram station. The breakfast buffet was a great way to start the day.

Jonathan Poole, the general manager of the hotel attends to the the needs of the hotel guests. We had to catch an early train to St. Petersburg and would miss breakfast, so he had the kitchen prepare a take-away snack for us to have on the train. All the staff was very helpful and spoke very good english.

We would recommend this hotel for a great stay anytime!

Room Tip: Recommend the refurbished executive rooms.

We stayed for 3 nights in June2014. The location could not be better - right in the middle of the beautiful old town. The hotel buildings go back to 16-17 Century, build around a central courtyard. We had a large, comfortable room on the ground floor facing into the courtyard. All the staff very helpful with good recommendations for local Estonian restaurants. Buffet breakfast served in the old cellars, - on the third morning the hot buffet was replaced by a la Carte orders delivered in a very few minutes. Possible improvements: there was only one not very comfortable chair in a double room so we had to sit/lie on the bed; it would have been nice to have a kettle with coffee and tea for an early morning 'cuppa'.

Room Tip: Probably best not to have one overlooking the street outside where there are a lot of bars/cafes.

This hotel was very well situated in the heart of the old town, surrounded by bars, restaurants, cigar rooms and German Breweries, oh and lots of historic buildings, churches, walls, etc.
The hotel staff were very friendly, spoke perfect English and changed our room when we asked for one with a bath without question.
They recommended a local Estonian restaurant nearby which was great and gave us a 10% discount voucher for it (that's another review).
The rooms were okay, a bit dated but functional with a mini bar, tv (which I only watched as England were playing Italy at 1am and I wished I hadn't bothered as Italy won!)
It had a nice outside dining area as well as an interesting breakfast cellar and of course the Ice Bar.
I would certainly recommend this hotel for a few nights stay in Tallinn.

Situated just in the heart of old Tallinn. An very old building with it´s historical beautiful details. Still a modern stylish hotel. The room in the third floor facing in the courtyard was completely soundproof allthough very small (no 305). The shower splashed the whole bathroom wet which was not so nice and the towels were all worn out, - more like in a second class hostel. The breakfast is excellent and it is so nice that you can make your own tea in a small teapot from a various selection of teas! All the staff very friendly and helpful! We had a very pleasent two night stay! Thank you!

Room Tip: The rooms facing the courtyard are very peaceful as far as the courtyard restaurant is not full of c...

Perfect location just off the main square. Ideal for sight-seeing and nightlife. Our double room was huge, with a lounge at one end (room 214), and wicker chairs outside overlooking the peaceful internal courtyard. Staff were very professional and friendly. They all spoke excellent English. The breakfasts were amazing - everything was on offer from full English to smoked salmon and rye bread to fresh fruit salad. I can't recommend it highly enough!

We stayed two nights in the M. H. Hotel. The staff was very courteous, knowledge and helpful and fluent in English. The room was very nice and clean and there was free wifi. The breakfast was very good. My only complaint would be a lack of parking (and where you can find it, it is pretty expensive).
