The Merchant's House is actually several very old buildings converted into a hotel. It is in the heart of the old town on a quaint street. Not surprisingly therefore their rooms vary considerably. Initially we were shown to a dark room in the courtyard, long and thin with no window in the bedroom or bathroom. When we expressed disappointment, we were swiftly changed to a much larger, lighter room at the front of the hotel. They were worried that we'd dislike noise from the street (or the bar diagonally opposite) but actually it was fine. There is no lift but the reception staff were happy to carry our suitcases up and down. The bathroom was pretty antiquated but I enjoyed having a bath for a change. The bed was very large and comfortable. The breakfast buffet in the cellar was very good. Wifi worked well throughout the hotel.

Room Tip: Don't be afraid to talk to Reception if you don't like your room. They vary a lot so you might want to see what else they have to offer (subject to availability).

The Merchants House hotel is in the centre of Tallinn. It faces onto a pedestrian street. There is a bar across the road but it did not seem too noisy but if you are worried about noise you could request an inside room. It is very convenient for walking around the town. The rooms are good and there is a lounge and courtyard area. The breakfast is good but they don't seem to do much for dinner but there are plenty of restaurants near-bye.

The hotel is ideally located and perfect for a weekend break in the city. We were able to visit all local sights on foot and staff were happy to offer advice and directions. The bed was extremely comfortable and the large rain shower was a welcome treat. Breakfast was plentiful with lots of healthy options and a wide range of leaf teas. The "ice bar" was the only let-down, but the courtyard terrace was a lovely spot for a pre- dinner cocktail. We would have appreciated tea/coffee making facilities in the room, but this just meant we spent more time exploring the many lovely local bars and cafés.

Our room was outfitted with quirky antiques and opened onto a quiet courtyard. The bed and linens made sleeping in a delight. Breakfast was tasty and ample In The adjoining restaurant. Staff was knowledgeable and pleasant throughout our stay. Will return!

We stayed for 1 night and I had requested a quiet room facing the private courtyard, which we also were given. The room was a deluxe room on the 3rd floor and it was perfect for a short stay - if we had stayed longer a bigger room would have been nice. Airconditioning was indeed a nice thing to have as the weather was quite warm. Free wifi was also great and it worked perfectly.
The location is smack in the middle of old town, which is just perfect. The staff was very friendly and I especially liked the offer of booking the sauna for our use (free of charge, a private sauna, yay), which we passed this time round but come winter we will be taking the trip again and then we will certainly make use of the sauna facilities.
The breakfast was nice, and seemed popular among the guests (I am not much of a breakfast person myself, but the selection looked nice - eggs, sausages, fresh juice etc.).
A very nice experience and we will certainly be staying here again.

Room Tip: room facing the private courtyard
