“Make sure You Get On The Front !”
Reviewed 29 September 2011

The hotel has a great location, right on the edge of the old town,is easy & cheap to get to by using the 90K bus from the airport that stops right outside the hotel.
The contnental style breakfast is ok,the staff are very friendly & helpful.
The beds are a bit narrow,& the bathroom does flood when you have a shower but you do have the scraping device to clear up the mini flood !

The main thing with this hotel is the back of it faces directly over the railway station, while the front of it faces the Old Town and will offer a great view.....sadly despite me requesting a room at the front at the time of booking,we ended up on the back ! so once the trains started at approx 6am we were woken up by the noise of the trains etc etc.....even with the window closed ! so basically it's vital to get a room on the front of the hotel if you want a good nights sleep ! one other thing to mention,as you walk out the front of the hotel to the right
there is a great old steam locomotive that has been restored to mint condition which is worth going to have a look at.

Room Tip: Request room on the front !

Dear HazyDavy,

Thank you for Your review and kind words for our staff!
A little insight for everyone - rooms on the railway side are identified as Standard rooms and rooms on the Old Town side as Superior rooms - on every booking engine, after booking the exact room you have in mind, you can be sure that you get one.

Thank You again,
Hope to see You soon!

Stayed at the shnelli 23rd sept for 3 nights, It is a well positioned hotel within easy walking distance to the old town.
To get from the airport to the Shnelli is very easy you catch the no 90k blue bus just outside of the airport doors and it stops right outside the hotel and only costs 2 euros ! It is a circular route that goes every 30 mins.
A good basic hotel that is very clean and good value for money. the breakfast is ok, i.e. toast, jam, cornflakes, porridge, scrambled eggs, sausage, fried potatoes, selection of meat and cheese, fruit juice and tea and coffee that is all self service.
I had read a few reviews complaining about the bath rooms flooding when showering, they are more like a wet room really so the water does go all over the floor but there is a squigy to mop up with, plenty of hot water every day. The maid came into the room every day and changed the towels, the beds were a little on the narrow side but very comfortable.
Very helpfull staff.
would reccomend this hotel anytime

Great location right oppisite Old Town walls . Superior rooms on the upper floors give excellent view of Toompea Castle & Tall Hermann's Tower. Breakfast is included and hotel (as does most of Tallinn) has excellent wi-fi. Price is reasonable and although it is not sumptuous or swanky it is an excellent choice for a traveller on a budget.

This hotel was excellent. You could compare it in many ways to a travel lodge.
The rooms were very clean and tidy; the shower I thought was excellent. It was nice and powerful to wake me up first thing! The breakfast was also good, not a great deal of choice, however if you like continental breakfasts there is not a problem.
It does back onto the train station, but I found very little disruption from noise. Over the road is a beautiful park. If you are going into the centre, turn left as you cross over, otherwise you will be walking for a while!
I was not hesitate to book and return to the hotel in the future.

I personally did not book the room but upon entering it for the first time the stench of nicotine would have knocked you out. As both my roommate and I are non-smokers it was a horrible smell to put up with which never disappeared even with the window open all day. Only having one thin pillow per bed was also not great but I'm sure they are available if requested.

The price of the hotel was its selling point and with breakfast included it really was a bargin adding the factor of the location being only 2 minutes from the old town. The breakfast however, I could only manage once out of four mornings due to the poor selection and taste of the food. The daily servings included a fayre of one type of cereal, toast, frankfurters and scrambled egg, fruit salad etc. By the looks and taste of it it must have been recycled daily! I ended up with tummy ache but I do not know if this was caused by the breakfast or not! I'll give them the benefit of the doubt!

The shower tends to flood the bathroom but there is a squidgy to remove the access.

Another pitfall of the hotel although it wasn't really a major issue was the room looked out onto the railway station. The trains however, did not run from approximately 11pm - 6am so sleep was not really affected. The noise did tend to wake you up though, however, I wasn't in the room during the day for it to annoy me.

The hotel staff were very helpful and I could not fault them so that was a big plus as was the free wi-fi which is a basic human right in Estonia (if only the UK would think the same).

Overall for the price paid one can't have too many complaints but in hindsight I would have paid more for a better one.

Tallinn itself and beautiful in more ways than one and very cheap for food and drink so I would definately return to the city.

Top Tip: Take a day trip to Helsinki for £38 return (1.5 hours). The terminal is only a 15 minute walk away.

Room Tip: Front (old town) facing and non-smoking

Recently went on a bargain trip toTallinn with my husband. Got a deal at the Schnelli for approx £35 per night. This was incredible value considering it included breakfast and it's proximity to the old town, about a 2 minute walk to be precise. The beds were comfy, small singles made up as one but with an overall size of about a king sized bed( we have a super king at home and felt comfortable in this one). Room spotless and breakfast was the usual Eastern European fayre of cereal, bread, frankfurters, scrambled egg etc. We asked to be placed away from the Northern Irish football fans who were enjoying themselves in the bar when we arrived and were given a superior room on the front of the hotel which was a bit of a double edged sword as we had a beautiful view over Toompea Hill but the road was noisy,ok for us as we live on a city, but may be an issue for others. Staff were pleasant and friendly and my only issue was that the room was really hot and the only 'air con' was a small fan in the corner, which we used all the time. Overall,a great value, travelodge style hotel in a great location.

Room Tip: Front if you want a view, back if you want it a little quieter.
