“Fantastic stay!!”
Reviewed 21 February 2008

This hotel is the best I have ever visited! Its location is great, the rooms are very good, but the best of all is that every member of the staff I met at my three night long stay were extremly service minded. They helped us with everything, from booking restaurants and spa, to tell us where to shop and look at tourist attractions. The breakfast was also great.

The staff talked really good English, and they were always more than happy to help me and my girlfriend with any kind of problems we had. Even tought we are young and not rich we felt more than welcome at this hotel. I am really glad I lived in this hotel, and I will 100 percent shore live at this hotel next time I am visiting Tallinn

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights at Christmas. The room was small but nicely decorated. We had some problems with the bath but at the end we solved them. Breakfast is average, the location is very good as it is situated at the start of Old Town. Nearby you can find all kinds of restauranmts, bars, casinos. We like d our stay.

Reviewed 3 October 2007

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at The Savoy. The location is perfect and the room (a suite) was fantastic. The bath was huge-more like a boat!

This was city break for my wife's 40th birthday-I had requested a bottle of champagne for our room on arrival-a small bottle of cava was delivered by the staff with a note wishing my wife a happy birthday-a nice touch which was appreciated.

Complaint 1.

Having read that the local taxi companies are a complete rip off (especially tourists) I emailed the Savoy in advance and asked for them to arrange a taxi pick up from the Airport. They emailed me with confirmation and we were met at the airport by a taxi driver. The taxi driver told us that the fare had been placed on my room bill so there was no need to pay.

When we received our bill when checking out we had been charged 300 kr! The latest Berlitz guide for Tallinn and Easyjet flight brochure both warned of rip off taxi prices and suggested that the price from the airport should be 70-80kr. This was a blantant rip off by the hotel over charging by four times as much. I had expected this sort of over charging from a taxi driver not The Savoy.

When we complained we were told that this was an airport transfer and not a Taxi!! Work that one out. The manager said that we were emailed with the price in advance-which we were not-but then she admitted that the hotel had not sent an email. She eventually agreed to charge 100kr.

Tip 1. Don't book a taxi with the Savoy, get one from the airport and do not get in the cab until you have agreed a price.

Complaint 2.

I had pre-paid the stay at the Savoy through an internet company called select-a-room-the price included breakfast. This was confirmed by the receptionist when we checked in. What you are not told is that if you have breakfast in your room then you are charged for the breakfast again even if you have already paid it.

The breakfast order form in the room (which you hang on your door knob) does have a price list but we assumed that this was for those whose stay did not include breakfast. I checked the room information guide and there was no mention of additional charges for room service. Never the less, still concerned about this, I spoke to a staff member delivering our breakfast on our first morning who stated that if I had breakfast included in the room price then we would not be charged. Assured that we would not incur an additional charge we had breakfast in our room during our stay.

Again, on checking out, we found that we had been charged for all the breakfasts-we spoke to the manager who refused to deduct the charge saying that it was for room service.

I was absolutely furious as I had gone out of my way to check this, and the fact that this was not acknowledged and a refund was not given was disgraceful. This soured our stay at the Savoy and we left the Hotel fuming. It made us feel that the Hotel had exploited every opportunity to over charge us

Tip 2
Don't have breakfast in the room unless you want to pay twice!

Tallinn is a lovely city-but I certainly would not stay at the Hotel again and would not recommend it following our experience.

Dear Garamanda,

We were glad to here that, besides the two things pointed out in your comment, you enjoyed your stay with us!

I do hope that both of your remarks were already handled during your stay with us, let us kindly explain it just once again.

To get a ride from the airport (or some other location) you can either get a taxi or order transfer from the hotel. Since the latter is a separate service, the rates are fixed and generally higher than just getting a random taxi in the street. Most our guests feel that having a guaranteed and safe pick-up is worth more than the few kroons paid extra.

About breakfast: our room rate includes BUFFET breakfast served in our restaurant from 7 to 10 (Mo-Fri) or from 8 to 11 (Sat-Sun). If a guest wishes to have breakfast in the room (or after buffet breakfast has finished), then it costs extra. And, as You pointed out, the price list is available in every room. All our partners have been provided with this info and feature it on their website.

We sincerely apologise for the misunderstanding and still hope to welcome You again at Savoy Boutique Hotel and please do not hesitate to contact me directly for a personal complimentary airport transfer.

With very best regards from Tallinn,
Kaido Ojaperv

We booked the Savoy via. Booking.com, a site we have used before for our travel arrangements and had been satisfied with.

As we knew we would be arriving late on the Viking Line ferry from Helsinki, we contacted the hotel on two separate occasions to let them know that we would be arriving and the reconfirm our reservation. All was apparently well, until we turned up at the hotel to be told they had ofverbooked and a room had been reserved for us at the hotel across the street. The receptionist was obviously uncomfirtable with this, but we asked if we could leave our luggage with her and go to inspect the alternative room.

Needless to say, the alternative, while acceptable as a 2-3 star standard, was not up to what we had reserved at the Savoy. Declining the room, we were provided with some other options, but as it was by then approaching 12.30am we did not want to have to get cabs all over Tallinn to find a bed for the night. Eventually the receptionist admitted that there were rooms for that night but as a group was arriving the next day, they couldn't fulfil our complete reservation of four nights. She said we could stay that night but would have to vacate the next day. I have since read reviews of other properties where other guests have experienced similar difficulties, so BE WARNED! Anyway, we politely informed the receptionist that we would take the room available and would not be moving out for the remainder of our stay, as 'we were here first', so to speak!

The next morning, when we were at breakfast, a tray with sparkling wine and cut fruits was left in the room with an apology note for all the trouble experienced the previous evening. A very much appreciated token, but I wonder how many times this has happened? Confirmed reservations obviously are not as concrete as you may think! Our 'leverage' was limited as we had not prepaid. If we hadn't been as determined, we might have been sent elsewhere to the detriment of our holiday.

The hotel is a lovely, charming place, in a great location within walking distance of the town square and the historical attractions of Tallinn. Breakfast is served in the hotel restaurant, and consists of a buffet with some hot dishes with a decidedly baltic slant, (salad stuffs etc.!)

Our room - once we secured it! - benefited from a window in the bedroom and bathroom. Apparently, few rooms have this. We were shown another room with a quirky bathroom which was more 'wet room', i.e. the water from the shower would run all over the floor, and no bath. Ours featured both bath and shower and was beautifully fitted, with gorgeous washbasin and ameneties. The free wireless internet access was a bonus and allowed us to check-in for our onward flights with ease. One funny thing: the wardrobe was blocked off. A set of warbrobe doors revealed some shelves and the in-room safe but the other half - where one would hand things - was solid wood! I suspect it might have been the chimney shaft behind. Anyway, it meant hanging our clothes from hangers on hooks in the room, which wasn't great...a separate wardrobe would have been appreciated!

All in all, a good experience but some minor difficulties which prevent me giving it the full 5*.

Dear Ukflightattendant,

Thank you for sharing your experience! Your comments are of great value to us and we have since critically examined our booking policy, especially concerning overbookings, adopting a much more conservative approach.

If You plan to return to Tallinn and stay with us again, please let me know beforehand so that we could think of something great to surprise You with!

With kind regards from Tallinn

This hotel is located just inside the Old Town walls just 10 minutes Taxi drive from the airport (£4). I would highly reccommend this hotel. We stayed for two nights and the staff, double room and breakfast were excellent and the location of hotel is perfect. The nearby restaurants, cafes and bars are also excellent. Tallinn is a real surprise package

Excellent hotel - very good location; superb service.
Stayed for 1 week - in twin room. The first room we stayed in unfortunately had a leak in the bathroom and we were moved - both rooms were very nicely furnished, spacious but not overly big, and the staff were excellent. Breakfast and meals in the restraunt were lovely.

Would definitely stay there again.

We are also happy to inform that finally we are getting close to solving all the technical problems which were due to the construction company Koger poor works.

Once again, thank you very much and welcome back Savoy Boutique Hotel.
