Despite a number of "mishaps", i.e. service errors, we had a good time staying at the hotel. The hotel was under new management and the way the management handled our complaints was very professional. I'm sure that in a couple of months this hotel will be top rated from a service point of view as well.
The location is absolutely perfect. You can't find a better location in Tallinn.
The restaurant, Tchaikowsky, is really good, serving a mix of French and Russian food. Delicious.
Over all good value for money.

Room Tip: I'm sure you can choose any room. The insulation is superb, you can't hear a thing from the...

A most charming hotel in the middle of the old city. Could not have been a better location. Nice breakfast area, a variety of things to eat with a special egg meny. Kind staff, comfortable beds, very quiet and peaceful. Can fully recommend if you want to experience Old Tallinn by foot and be right in the middle of it.

Location
This nice but over-prized hotel - which is located in the city centre - is advertised as one of the best hotels in Estonia. I do have doubts whether this hotel is really up to the standards of a 5-star hotel in comparison to other well-designed grand hotels. For example, the bar is small, placed in the entrance area, and not a place where one would like to hang around - not to mention, for meeting people for a nice chat in the evening. The restaurant is also advertised as one of the best restaurants in Estonia. I do not know whether it deserves this title since I have not eaten there. The menu features Russian food and is reasonably priced.

Room
The standard of my small(!) room was all in all OK even though it was not up to the high standards of a 5-star hotel concerning its space and lack of luxurious facilities (though I have to be fair, it was a standard double room). Furthermore, the ratio between the size of the room and the size of the bathroom was uneven; the bathroom was too big and this led to the fact that the remaining space for the bedroom was limited. One could have gained 1-2 extra m2 by limiting the space of the bathroom which would have been the right thing to do. However, the room had some nice things as well: Black wooden floor, air condition system, flat screen TV, and some art works. There are no extra costs for Internet. My room had no balcony, the view was not impressive (to the patio area), and the noise of the elevator was unpleasing.

Bathroom
The bathroom was very spacious but unfortunately did not have any space for additional towel holders (there was only one towel holder attached to the one side of the shower next to the toilet) and there was absolutely no space for your care cosmetics so that I had to put my bag on top of the waste bin. This is unacceptable! The shower was in the bathtub which is not OK for a 5-star hotel. There was space enough to either have both or, at least, to have a really nice walk-in shower. Elderly people, in particular, might have a serious problem to get in and out of the tub. The bathrobe was of less good quality and even in xxl size (way) too small for me.

Cleanliness
The room was not cleaned properly; for example, the cleaning staff did not take away all garbage and the bathroom was not cleaned appropriately – not to mention according to the high standards of a classical 5-star hotel. So, yes, I do have some minor complaints.

Hotel Staff
Friendly, English-speaking staff. Though, at some point, they were a bit careless, for example, the person at the front desk did not mention that there was a new construction side between the hotel and the airport that could have led to an extreme delay (bad if you have to reach your flight in time); and checking out was quite complex and took too long in my case.

Breakfast & Lunch & Dinner area
The breakfast & lunch & dinner area is great and nicely designed; it has a small separate area if you like to enjoy more privacy, this is thoughtful and nice. However, the standard of the breakfast was below the high standards of a 5-star hotel. It might be OK for Estonian terms, but certainly not for international standards and customers.

Special Features
The big and green patio area – partly surrounded by a high wall towards the city centre – is outstanding and really inviting. One can eat outside; there are sunshades if the sun is too hot during the day, heaters for the evening if it’s too cold, and a nice sofa area besides the normal area with tables and chairs. A really great place to hang out and relax. Other non-hotel guests can access this area as well.

Spa
The lovely spa area is designed in a Mediterranean style and has a pool, whirl pool, a sauna (too dark inside; it felt like a dark den) as well as a steam sauna, and a nice but small outside area with 2-3 tables. Guests are asked to always wear swimwear in the sauna and pool area. I really dislike this because it is unhygienic (and disgusting) if you are used to go naked in the sauna. There is also a changing room and two smaller massage rooms; try out to get a massage, it was really great and relaxing (a bit pricy though). The spa staff is very friendly and professional. The front desk manager speaks perfect English and German as well.

Price-Quality Ratio
This hotel is over-priced also compared to international standards. My standard double room was too expensive and certainly did not meet the high standards of a 5-star hotel, not to mention a hotel that belongs to the leading hotels of the world (as it was advertised). This might be different with other more luxurious rooms in the hotel.

Final Conclusions
I really have mixed feelings about my stay since I have seen many good and bad things alike. According to my humble view, the hotel is over-priced, it has not an inviting bar area, the standard double room was a real breakdown and I cannot recommend this type of room for elderly people by virtue of the shower in the bath tub etc. The location of the hotel is unbeatable and the patio area is outstanding. If you ask me, I probably, will not come back.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for taking time to leave your comments regarding your recent stay at our hotel here on www.tripadvisor.com . Guest comments, whether they are positive or negative, are considered as very important as we can use them to motivate our team, but also to train our staff and to continuously improve our products and services for the benefit of all future guests.
I am very sorry to hear about the inconveniences you experienced during your stay with us. In an effort to prevent disappointing experiences for other future guests, we were trying to narrow down the exact dates you were staying with us as well as the room you stayed in, yet – unfortunately - were unable to do so. Therefore please feel free to contact me personally at irmela.heinsius@telegraafhotel.com with the exact dates you stayed with us as well as the name the booking was made for (or alternatively the room number). Thank you.

However, I was very pleased to read that you did like our Spa area as well as our Summer Terrace. You stated that you did not dine in our Restaurant Tchaikowsky, and I am sorry that you did indeed missed out on a satisfying dining experience.

I thank you again for sharing your experience with you and I am looking forward to hearing from you

With best regards

Nice rooms, view maybe not so as view was onto an old medieval wall !
Nice helpful staff. Negotiated discounts.
Clean rooms, pleasant atmosphere
Hotel is fantastic
My friend went to spa and it was nice

just.....
Hotel taxis are a complete rip-off. Taxi from airport costs 8 euro but a hotel one is 25 euro. we were arranged by the hotel a trip to go see a city outside of Tallinn. Complete rip-off and driver was clue-less about where to go. Seemed like a taxi-hotel deal of some sort. That was very disappointing!

Room Tip: try something without a view of a wall... maybe higher up. on second floor was wall view :(

We stayed at The Hotell Telegraaf as part of our classic car club's Baltic Rally. It was choosen firstly because it has a safe underground car park which can accommodate about 15 cars. It is right in the centre of the old historic part of Tallinn so is very convienient for everything. The staff are all fantastic and nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast is really good - there is a good buffet selection and you can have some items cooked specially for you. Our rooms were in the new part and were superb - I cannot comment of the old part but I am sure that the standards are just as good if not better! There is an outside terrace where drinks and food is served which is just lovely. We didn't eat in the restaurant so cannot comment on that. We would not hesitate to recommend to other car clubs!
