“Fantastic staff & location make this hotel one of my faves!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 April 2011

As many other reviewers have said, the location of this hotel is great - right on the edge of old town, but away from any street noise.
The staff surprised me with roses & a bottle of champagne for my birthday, which was such a thoughtful gesture (we had never aven mentioned it was my birthday, they had to have noticed it on my passport info.)
I would definitely recommend this hotel, they have an incredibly friendly & helpful staff and you can't beat the location (the rooms are very clean & comfortable, as well.)

hotel was on the tip of the old town 5 mins to the square. staff spoke good English and had leaflets available for the sights. minus 6 out but room lovely and warm. Breakfast decent continental selection. Street map useful and easy to follow. Caught local tram to palace, steady walk back along sea front to town.

Just returned from a 4 day visit to Tallinn and we enjoyed it thoroughly.A lovely welcome when we arrived at reception in the Hotel Bern. The hotel is set back from the main road just round the corner from The Viru Gates and a short stroll to the Old Town. Our room was very comfortable with bathrobes and slippers provided. When we registered on arrival the staff must have noted it was my birthday the next day as on return to our room that night a card, small bottle of bubbly and a vase of tulips were awaiting.A lovely touch and much appreciated. The staff could provide all the information on places to visit and transport links that we required.Just along the road is the lovely Chicago bar and restaurant-well worth a visit. I would certainly recommend Hotel Bern.

Stayed here for 2 nights on a city break in snowy February.

The Hotel Bern is modern, clean and very central to the Old Town of Tallinn, and about 2 minutes from the first stop on the city bus tour, very handy for getting your bearings (although all of the main attractions are within walking distance and you can walk around the city centre in a day). Tallinn itself is beautiful and looks lovely in the snow – which of course the residents just take in their stride - the UK could learn a lot from their approach to severe weather! And it sounds obvious but with the low temperatures and even lower windchill, you’ll need plenty of warm layers.

Our room was small but nice and warm, with bathrobes and a minibar, and a fab wet room – although a bath would have been amazing to soothe aching legs after walking around the wintry city. Plus while I have mocked people who go on holiday and moan about not having a kettle and tea/coffee facilities in their hotel room, I admit it would have been nice to have this here to help warm up after a day outside.

The continental breakfast had a small selection with the usual croissants, cereal, fruit etc. The lukewarm ‘hot’ section of scrambled eggs and meatballs was perhaps there to advertise the hotel as offering ‘full breakfast’, but a bad idea really, they should either offer more hot food or just concentrate on a wider continental breakfast selection or – even better - traditional Estonian foods.

The ‘gentlemans club’ next door didn’t have any sign of life while we were there (Thursday – Saturday) so maybe it is closed? Who knows – we certainly weren’t bothered by noise or people hanging around.

In all, the word to describe Hotel Bern is ‘fine’ – nothing outstandingly good or bad about it, just a good-value base for exploring the city.

Just returned from a 4 day break to Tallinn and cannot emphasise (UK Spelling) how glad i was that we picked the Hotel Bern to stay in, firstly the weather was cold and I mean cold with -18 during the day dropping to -21 at night however never in the hotel did I feel chilly, the bedroom was not the biggest but its a place to sleep in only and the queen size bed was ultra comfortable with the advantage of split bedding that meant no fighting over the quilt!! the bathroom was very neat and a wet room which does take getting use too if you've never used one but with underfloor heating never stayed wet for long.
Staff were always very pleasant and helpful giving the impression that nothing was too much trouble and always ready with recommendations and maps taking the time out to show your where everything is, breakfast was really nice good selection of fruit, cereals and pastries with cold meat/cheese, fresh bread with a heated option of scrambled egg and pork balls, plenty of juices with coffee and tea making facilities. personally I cannot see how other reviewers were less than complimentary about the breakfast buffet?
The only issue that I commented to the Hotel was that it would have been nice to have had the facility within the room to make a tea/coffee when returning the the hotel at night, I have seen comments by the hotel that guests can ask for this however during the coldest winter months I believe this should be supplied automatically. Hotel location is perfect being close enough to both the "Old" and New town to enjoys the facility's that both have to offer.
I would recommend this hotel to everyone visiting Tallinn and am awaiting the Easyjet flight schedules for Winter 2011 to return in December to visit the Christmas markets.
One thing to warn fellow visitors about is the state of the pavements during the winter months, the snow doesn't get cleared and this leads up to 3/4 inches of ice on top when the seriously cold weather sets in, grit is put down but you need boots with decent tread to stop and slips/falls even then you see people taking the odd tumble (locals included).

This hotel is in a perfect location. Clean, well kept and practical. Yes the rooms are small, but functional: why does anyone need a big room?! Staff couldn't be more helpful. Breakfast great. Baggage kept with no problems and nice 12pm check out!
