“almost four star hotel in fine location.”
Reviewed 11 June 2012

I stayed in the Hotel Metropol between june 4th and june 8th.2012.This hotel is very easy to find.Simply get on the airport shuttle bus pay 2 euro and the driver will tell you to get off at bus stop no 7.Walk across road there is Hotel Metropol. The hotel is located in an former warehouse/industrial area the buildings of which have been turned in to hotels/shops/restaurants.It is a 10 minute walk to old town/ferry harbour. The downstairs decor of the reception/restaurants/bars are modern and of a high standard.Staff a little reserved but VERY helpful. My room 5601 overlooked the old town was kept exceptionally clean and tidy/large/hot efficient shower.Ate in the restaurant for breakfast which is a help yourself to sausages/eggs/cereal/fresh fruit salad etc.I also ate in the restaurant for one evening meal had duck delicious and inexpensive. The Metropol restaurant is far far better than the rated "alter ego"restaurant nearby.Would have ate in the hotel restaurant every night but wanted to try other restaurants/bars in old town.Beware when you ask hotel for a taxi that a "pirate" taxi is not parked outside pretending to be your taxi.As an example my taxi (official)to airport was 6.50 euro "pirate"taxi wanted 30 euro.I had no problem with noise from karoke bar as it is not used until weekends.Highly recommend the Hotel Metropol.

Room Tip: Do not be put off by reserved manner of some staff. For realy cheap eats/drinks try "kompressor...

For the price, this proved to be a decent hotel right on the edge of the old town. Although the hotel is behind some other buildings, it was still really straight forward to find - about 5 mins from the airport bus. The room was large, clean and comfortable... fantastic if you like the retro look too! The breakfasts were decent - typical Scandinavian fare. We sat in the bar a couple of times and it always seemed chilled.. the karaoke bar was louder, but you only noticed it when you walked in, The hotel offered guests use of the sauna in the morning, split into female and male times. It never really seemed busy and was a nice was to wake up before breakfast.

As other reviewers have noted, the location is really the winner here... just outside the old town, so cutting down on price, but a few minuets and you are there. The ferry terminal is also just a few minuets away, which is also a bonus for early morning ferries to Helsinki!

This is very good hotel, clean, if they would put sign on roof so it would easy to find,it took a while. I had some of old friends( I havent seen in 20 yars) to meet me here. Most of them have kids at home and it way too loud at bar, so I thought if we sit and talk in the room it wood work better. But the dude at front desk want to charge 21 euros per friend to come up even they werent planting to spend a night. That was very upseting, so had to go to the bar and yeld to each other over music, so wasnt much of conversation with my friends :-(.

This hotel is ok. The rooms are ok. Even the light/wall mural feature of the insect-eating plants in the room was ok. But there is a design flaw in that there is a central light column in the middle of the building almost right over the entrance to the in-house karaoke bar. Many rooms have windows onto it (single glazing) so bring ear plugs if you are not a fan of karaoke after midnight.

This is a lovely hotel right next to the beautiful old town. Hard to find fault with anything about this place. It was affordable, spotlessly clean and very helpfull front desk staff. The breakfast was excellent also as sometimes hotel breakfasts in europe can be limited. Overall this hotel was a great experence and I would go back.

First of all: Geographical location is superb.
Forum Cinemas is 100 meters away. Old Town - 200 meters. Restaraunts and everything else - few hundred meters by foot.
What isn't great is that club Bon Bon is 50 meters away from the hotel. Great for party people. Bad for anyone who want's to get some quality sleep.
Also, hotel itself has a karaoke bar - so being on the second floor might not be optimal, but otherwise - karaoke!

Hotel itself isn't bad at all. Really clean and nice. Rooms are so fricking big. Even the standard ones. Much-much space.
Service is so-so. Not bad, but nothing spectacular.
I kinda dislike that they are charging for every little thing - tho it's mostly normal with these kind of 3 star hotels that are mostly just money-oriented.

There's free sauna tho in the mornings. Separate times for men and women.
The morning buffet is positioned in the hotel restaraunt. Really neat place, to be honest. Great atmosphere.

Overall - you get what you pay for. A great location, great place for party people who are going to stay up untill the morning anyways. Karaoke bar has a lot of people attending and also there's music player from the dj-deck (mostly estonian and finnish music).

I would reccomend it to young people who just want to get their groove on or people who wan't to relax with a lot of alcohol. People who are more..cultural and such might want to look elsewhere.
Every room is rocking a TV that has 6 channels. Few channels from Estonia, Germany, Finland and Russia.

Great plus for smokers: Yes, there's a whole floor for smokers and rooms for smoking. A rather rare thing nowadays.

The hotel is a short taxi ride away approximately 10 - 15 minutes. We were charged about 20 euros for a mini bus of 8 people.
The hotel is clean. The bar is cosy, the Karaoke bar is ok but can still be heard in your room until the early hours!
Breakfast is limited, it consists of fruit, cereal, toast and hard boiled eggs with salad and pickles.
I treated myself to a full body aroma massage for 28 euros and it was well worth it. (2nd floor).
It is only a short walk from the Old Town and shoppiong centre.
We found a lovely restaurant called Alter Ego just a 1-2 minute walk from the hotel.
We also jumped on the hop on hop off bus 13 euros for a day.
The weather was very cold -9 to -12 I would strongly recommend thermals.
