“Nice hotel, great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2008

Nice and clean hotel with great location close to old town.

I stayed there with my girlfriend for a week an were pleasantly surprised with this hotel. Nice rooms and bathroom.

The people at the reception stand were polite and helpfull.

The hotel promotes itself as being remodeled in 2006, but the extent of the remodelling seems to consist of a giant illuminated picture on one wall. Despite being listed as a nonsmoking room, there were ashtrays in the room and the room smelled like smoke. The bathroom smelled of sewage, but what really made the whole stay unbearable was that there were no windows that opened in the room, turning the place into a fragrant sauna. Given the opportunity, I would rather skip the Metropol next time or stay at the much nicer Viru for a few kroons more.

Hotel looks very drab and grey from outside and a litle isolated from the town.
However once inside it is fairly pleasant and only about 10 mins from the Old Town.

Hotel has a small but very adequate Casino, Bar and Restaurant downstairs.

On the whole Estonians seem a very miserable bunch of people but this was lightened by the girl on reception.
I think her name was Maria.
She was very friendly and helpful and was always prepared to have a cheery chat when we rolled in at 6 am.

Rooms were adequate and clean and perfect for our purpose.
( Stag Weekend !)

Once we got our bearings and after many cab journeys we realised we were only about 10 mins from everywhere so hotel was good value.

Tallinn was quite a grey and in some places medieval city with very few smiles.
We had been told that it was perfect for a stag weekend but it couldnt touch Prague !

  • Liked — Not far from sights
  • Disliked — So grey and miserable from front

I booked this through Partyweekends.com
I don't think that this company exists anymore though!

A great hotel in a great city. They have a new town and old town and the Metropol is conveniently located for both. There are cashpoints, bars, clubs and restaurants galore. The only problem in this hotel was that I forgot my tootbrush. I had to explore the 'local market' where I found only one in the whole place. It cost the equivalent of about 50p and was harder than a toilet brush!
The place is well worth a visit for couples and groups alike. If in groups, beware of the Russian girls. A lot on my trip thought this place was heaven walking around with about 5 girls in tow. These soon disappeared once the endless supply of Kroons has dried up after buying round after round.

There is so much to see here and this truly is a medieval city.

  • Liked — Stylish modern design
  • Disliked — The roadworks outside from 6am!

Tallinn is a small and compact town and the hotel is handily placed just on the outside of town. The hotel itself offers a free morning sauna (not sampled - too lazy) and free breakfast (sampled first day but never again - powdered egg, watered down juice and limited choice). You can get much better breakfast from the local supermarket for a couple of pounds. Room is functional and adequate but the bathroom had a strange smell.

I'm sure there must be better hotels in the price range. Buy the Tallinn card from tourist information or hotels. Its great value.

Hard to find initially and not as close to the railway station as I would have liked. That said it served my purpose very well. The room was clean and modern (although no stopper in the sink). No tea/coffee making facilities either which really should be standard in this modern day and age. Very handy to Old Town although depending on which direction you approach the hotel from it can appear to be in a seedy location, with strip clubs and casinos close by. Don't let that put you off though - Its cheap and a ten min walk to the Old Town. Watch pick pockets in the area through. I had a nasty experience with 3-4 of them. If you are planning to travel onwards to say Finland it couldn't be more convenient to the Port.

The Metropol was was in a wonderful location; a short walk to the old town, shopping centers, the ferry docks. and city center. The room was excellent. I thought the breakfast was a bit disappointing. The staff was friendly and helpful.
