Just outside old town within a few minutes walk of main tourist area. Represents a good choice if you get it at the right price. But travellers from UK and Ireland might want to give the breakfast a miss - poor choices.

I`ve even didn`t think that in Estonia there will be such a terrible service..May be because the Metropol brand for russian mind is that Metropol is near the Red Square. So very very bad... Starting at the reception where I knew that the will be no parking for my car but only for money - but at my itinerary it is written - that I payed for room with Free wifi and free parking. The receptionist was forcing me to pack the car at the payable parking. SO after that I found the place at the hotel free parking, so it is the first. The second - the wifi is not working at the rooms. It is strange but it working only at the half of the hotel. It was my mistake to have the accomondation in such a worth pleca with bad service. Also the rooms are not nice. But there is a nice restorant and nice people are working there. Due that we were tired and despite it was already 22-00 and kitchen closing they made for us smth to eat. the fact is - i will never ever lieve there. but I wish restorant people good luck.

We spent 1 night in July 2009. We generally can recommend this hotel for a short stay. It's very close to the Old Town and to the harbour (convenient if you're going to travel further by ferry). We were going to Helsinki on a ferry so for us it was a perfect location. On of the drawbacks is the parking - if you arrive late you can face a problem with that as the number of parking places around the hotel is limited. Other is quite loud music from the club downstairs which can be heard at night. The shower is little bit old. Cannot say anything about the breakfast as we left for the ferry at 6am.

Hotel was ok.
Room was very hot and keeping the window open didn't help. Bathroom was large (shower, wc, sauna).
Hotel was in the middle of everything you need. Near the harbour, near the old town, and near the 'new' town. Main street was near so you could easily get bus, if you need.
Breakfast was ok. Only thing that I thought englishmen (and some others) could miss, was bacon.
Price could have been a little bit less, but all in all a good choice.

I'm writing this review at 6am from my hotel bed on the second night of a 3-night stay at the Metropol. I'd much rather be asleep, but this hotel-like the rest of the country, it seems-doesn't have air conditioning. Our choices are to open the window and deal with street noise and a sun that never sets in July or close the window and blinds and silently suffocate. It's hardly ideal.

Sleep complaints aside, this is actually a decent place. It's a step above spartan and a step below luxury. The spotless rooms have been renovated recently, the bed itself is clean and comfortable, there's enough room to move around, the bathrooms are functional and clean, the location is superb, and the front desk staff will get their own special mention in a bit. And as for that open window, it's a blessing--a massive wall of glass that swings open 180 degrees so at least we get some breeze with our daylight and street sounds, with a view of some very modern-looking buildings across the parking lot. Rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors don't get this setup, presumably to prevent wall-crawling burglars from entering.

The hotel itself has all the amenities, but it's not quite luxury. There's an ironing room, not an iron in your room. There's a small TV with a handful of channels--the TV has a speaker in the bathroom, which is kind of fun if your spouse is watching an Estonian documentary about Ray Charles while you shower. The floor is linoleum, but it's a well-chosen fake-wood linoleum that actually looks nice, and it carries up the wall to form a wainscoting of sorts. The bathroom is clean and big, if nothing else, with a shower stall and decent water pressure and hot water. There's a trendy-looking but continually empty hotel restaurant with an uninspiring menu, a well-appointed hotel bar, a karaoke lounge, a very stylish lobby, a car rental outfit, saunas (free in the morning, expensive otherwise), free parking if you need it, a hotel taxi, and no fewer than three options for massage in the building. The front desk will sell you a postcard or change currency, but as usual you'll get better deals elsewhere. I didn't see any signs of a fitness center, business center, or other frills. Like everywhere else in Tallinn, there is abundant free wifi.

Where this hotel really shines is the location. It's just outside of Tallinn's famous old town in the up-and-coming Rotermann Square, across Mere Pst. (a 4-lane street) from the old town walls. The area is decidedly quieter than old town but not at all lacking for things to do. Roterman Square is something of a design hub, with all kinds of crazy modern architecture full of trendy shops and offices to offset the old town. The hotel shares a parking lot with a massive hostel known only by its price (the 16 euro hostel) and a restored old warehouse that's full of shops, bars, and restaurants. The hotel is also a 10-minute walk from the ferry dock and a 5-minute walk to the town bus depot for local buses

You can rent bikes from the 16E hostel or the charming young stoners on the couch at Greenbike, both for ~2E an hour or 16E/day. Within a 2-minute walk there are a handful of bars including Scotland Yard (with live music on the weekends and Guinness on tap), half a dozen or more restaurants and cafes including the don't-miss-it Sfaar restaurant/clothing store next to Scotland Yard and the stellar Museum Lounge on the other side of Mere Pst., a casino, strip club, liquor store, pharmacy, train lines, bus lines, museums, shopping malls, and more. Cross the street and you're in a pretty little park on the edge of old town. Go left for 3 minutes and you're in tourist central at Viru, go right and enter at Uus for a quieter take on the old town.

One other note worth mentioning--we prepaid for our room through 1800hotels.com for the bargain-basement price of 30E/night. Unfortunately, 1800hotels.com went bankrupt the day before our arrival and their room supplier cancelled our reservation without so much as an email to let us know. We whipped out our netbook and plugged into the free wifi to figure out what had happened while the 2 young staffers at the desk graciously let us make free international long-distance calls to try to resolve the situation and frantically called their management looking for a solution. They were eventually able to find us a double bed in the hotel even though it was theoretically sold out and they gave us a rate of 55E/night. This is well above what we'd planned on spending but well below their rack rate of 83E/night. Throughout the whole 20-minute snafu they were friendly, helpful, and gracious, and since it had nothing to do with them or hotel management we aren't holding a grudge. In fact, we're incredibly grateful for the front desk staff's help and professionalism in a difficult situation.

The bottom line: At 30E a night, this place was a steal, at 55E on a busy summer Saturday it was a deal we very much appreciated, but at 83E we would advise you to go elsewhere--there are lots of hotels nearby and even the 16E hostel next door has private rooms. So long as you book in advance, you should either be able to do better on the price than 83E here or find a better hotel for the money nearby.

Good hotel very very close to the lovely old town. Modern and clean hotel with good service. Very close to the Harbour, 5 min walk. Beware to look to the right side when you are walking from the harbour and you will see the hotel. Great value for money.
