Wonderful location tucked away on a charming street near the puppet theatre and history museum. The staff were charming and helpful. The hotel was busy but the breakfast buffet was well stocked and staff were quick to refresh the coffee when it ran out. Particularly enjoyed the water with berry leaves, fruit and lemons. The atmosphere in the dining room is light and airy and the balcony overlooking the old cobbled street is perfect for anyone wanting to waive down at their adoring fans.

The room was clean and well appointed but the appliances perhaps need to be replaced as both the fridge and the safe were not working. Fortunately, the thoughtfully provided electric fan was working because Tallinn was experiencing a heat wave and the wonderful, atmospheric building of the hotel does not come with mod cons such as air conditioning.

Worst gripe was the karaoke bar in the basement which is open until 5am most nights. We asked to be moved upon spotting this potential disturbance to our sleep but, unfortunately, the hotel was already full. Singing was a truly terrible mix of Russian pop and euro trash which reverberated through the floor boards. If it was not for being exhausted the cacophony would have meant no sleep until sunrise. If you do book this hotel and want to sleep between midnight and 5 am insist on a room a couple of floors up (or stay on a Sunday night when the karaoke finishes at midnight).

Overall good value for money. If you have a small hours karaoke habit perhaps this is the place for you.

The location of hotel is great to explore Tallin. Price including breakfast is one of the best you cand find in this area. Breakfast is good with variety of products. You only have to know that this is an old and historical building without lift and with narrow stairs and hall. For young people is OK but for other people it can be a problem. Rooms are clean and comfortable and also very nice staff.

Our family (2+2) stayed here for two nights. We liked the Hotel a lot: it definitely is not basic or standard place to stay. We had room in the ground floor in the garden and it was nice and quiet. Since it is a historical building, the history also shows in some places. The rooms were clean and unique - no complains!

St. Olav is perfectly located for a stay in the Old Town. People are helpful, and the rooms are clean. The buildings have their own charm especially if you like twists and turns to find your room. The breakfast is good as well. It is a touch expensive, but if you want to stay in a historic spot from which to base your travels St. Olav is for you.

To sum it up here rightaway, I simply do not recommend this hotel.

The hotel is well located, reasonably new and tidy. That's what's good about it.

The serious problem is the user experience that sucks. An example: we were given a ground floor room. I'm experienced enough traveler to avoid these because normally there's a high risk for all kinds of disturbance. This is why I deliberately asked the hotel staff at the reception whether there'd be noise on the ground floor and was sworn that all the noisy action would stop at about 10 pm. Being not too tight a sleeper I ended up listening karaoke from nearby bar till 2 o'clock. When you're having a holiday and are not in party mood you'd appreciate silence, wouldn't you? The lobby's 'lift music' started at 8 o'clock in the morning and was well audible in the room as well.

Our travel group's other half was given a fifth floor (top floor) room. It was OK but all too hot even though the outside temperature was under 20 degrees centigrade. The room was located at the end of a most meandering and mazy route. A funny detail about this hotel seemed to be that the only working doors were the rooms' main doors; all the rest we saw were missing doorknobs or pull handles or just didn't work properly for other reasons.

The hotel breakfast looked OK but in the closer look a lot of the food and stuff was illogically organized. It took a long time only to find things. Some of the food also ran out more than an hour before the breakfast ended.

The whole design concept of this particular hotel seems to be based on sheer greed: a piece of centuries old town block has been entirely filled with tiny hotel rooms. Each smallest corner and niche has been used. The result of this kind of approach is for instance something like this: when we were leaving the hotel, I overheard a German lady complaining at the reception that they didn't have windows in their room at all.

There's another – and this time dangerous – issue. As a building design professional I know a thing or or two about fire safety. This particular use-all-possible-and-even-impossible-space type hotel solution combined with obviously not so rational historical building has lead into very narrow and mazy corridors and here and there all too steep stairs – and there's even a transversal beam crossing at least one corridor at the height of a little over a metre! I really wouldn't want to be there among panicking people when there were a fire.

Our very clear bottom line is: next time in Tallinn we'll stay elsewhere.

Room Tip: If you for some weird reason end up choosing this hotel, avoid the top floors for your own safety an...

Very nice and clean hotel. Our room was 318 and there were no wall neighbors. So no noise was heard from other rooms. Only from the corridor was some noise registered. Breakfast was very good. The real old atmosphere like in old town should be.
