Of course, the waiters in medieval gear and the medieval decoration is a bit 'touristy', but this place is extremely good fun and very well done indeed. As with so much in the old town, it was a mixture of entertainment and serious historical authenticity. The building itself is old, like so many others in this beautiful city, so my partner and I were prepared to overlook the marketing gimmick. We ordered the 'gamekeeper's feast' and were really taken aback by the quality and the quantity of food! The starter plate was as delicious as it was generous, and then the mains included different dishes of wild boar, reindeer and boar ragu, salmon, rabbit, baked sauerkraut and sweet turnip. Every single dish was brilliant, especially the ragu, and all were beautifully and clearly explained beforehand. Personally, I was thankful not to have the musicians playing right in front of me, and I loved the candlelit interior. Staff were excellent. While so many places around the world are just made for tourists and are a real rip off, this place (and Old Tallinn in general) seem to have got the balance right. It was value for money and I would certainly go back.
