The hotel is well located not far from the tram station and has easy access to the city center, the breakfasts are fine, staff is helpful. But please be noted that the double beds size is quite small for tall people: 150x190.

We were booked into the Dodo Hotel for 5 days but when we arrived the supplier of hotels to the travel agent we used had cancelled the booking and the hotel was advised to bill us direct. This was obviously not a positive first impression though it wasn't the fault of the hotel. Luckily they had spare rooms and allowed us to pay a deposit which would be refunded if we were able to resolve the issue with our agents. Sadly this was not to be the case but we were still able to stay at the Dodo at a reasonable rate. I must say all the staff who dealt with us were very professional and understanding. The Dodo Hotel itself is a good hotel. The location is in the Moscow Suburb which is a bit run down and seems quite deprived. However we never felt unsafe there. There were always people hanging outside the main door talking and smoking - but these were more guests of the hotel rather than people living in the area. there are some interesting sights within the area (such as the memorial at the ruins of the Choral Synagogue), and there is a map from the hotel which shows the walking route into town. We never walked into town as there was a tram stop near the hotel which took you into town easily - there was never a long wait as the trams were pretty frequent. The room itself was good, there was no aircon so we had to leave the windows open - we did that even when we were not in the room as our room faced the courtyard. The main negatives about the hotel are: the ridiculously small TV, it can be quite noisy, esp. early in the morning when it sounds like delivery van comes into the courtyard to make deliveries and slams the vehicle door shut very loudly which usually wakes us up. The quilt just about covers the bed, so with two people trying to use it with minimal overhang, it was not very comfortable. The breakfast, for 6 euros, was very mediocre - coffee didn't taste great, pancakes were dry - and it was cheaper and more filling getting pastries from bakeries in town. All in all our experience in Dodo was a positive one, notwithstanding the problems with the travelagent and booking. We definitely wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Dodo again if we return to Riga.

Don't get a room on the right ground/2nd floor as its where the coaches unload and they tend to leave the engines running for several hours. Otherwise pretty good value and very clean. Ok there are some run down buildings near by but thats the case in most of Latvia - the hotel is directly opposite a large main police station so very safe and the staff were all fluent in English and very helpful. Tram is right outside you'll need a No.7 into and out of town takes around 10 mins and is a scenic trip - costs about a euro each way. Riga is a great destination for a week or so.

We stayed at the Dodo Hotel as we planned to rent a car for some our stay in Latvia. The hotel staff are most helpful and provided a disabled room on the ground floor for my elderly mother. Note: the hotel does not have any lifts - so if you have difficulty with stairs, request a room on the ground floor.
The rooms were quiet - although sadly a group of lads on a stag night trip did cause a lot of noise as they got ready to go out for the night. (I have no idea when/if they actually got back).
The breakfast was good value and we loved the automated pancake machine. There were not many restaurants very close by but we did find a place to eat in the nearby shopping centre. We caught taxis to the centre of Riga and had a full day there. (The hotel have special rates with the Taxis parked outside. ) After that we had hire cars and were pleased to be able to park in secure parking just across the street. We were able to see much of the countryside.

Room Tip: Curtains can let light through so bring shades if you want a totally dark room. Also request lower r...

it looks fine on the pictures, but having just stayed in an Ibis in Warsaw where I slept like a baby for less than here, this was a nightmare : the only modern building in the area and the tourist information confirming my impression, advising to avoid the district at all cost ... it also proved absolutely terrible for the entire night : people smoked near the entrance, their conversations preventing me from opening the window and even then waking me up every time ... and whenever someone moved on the upper floor, walked along the corridors or spoke in adjacent rooms I would be awoken ... and listen to their conversations.

Room Tip: top floor, far away from entrance

You don't expect the budget hotel to look so good and clean. Rooms and bathrooms are very well designed, both aesthetic and functional. Near by hotel is the tram station that takes you to the centre, but each time we actually walked to the city and got acquainted with the other side of Riga where you usually don't see the tourist wandering around. :)
Although the breakfast (not included in the price of room) offers varieties of food, it is sadly very low quality food. In my opinion would be better to have less quantity, but increase the quality.
We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend Dodo.
