“The pancakes were the highlight of my stay.”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

It is ridiculous that one should be threatened by a whopping€340 fine if they were to make noise past 11pm.
The breakfast was limited and obviously made from the cheapest available, the orange juice was horrible, the bread was stale at times and the bacon was undercooked. The rooms were too small for two persons.
I also encountered an empty bottle of vodka and four energy drinks under my bed when moving in, obviously the room was not cleaned properly.
I would also recommend a hotel uniform and a touch of charisma.

The hotel is in a street and surrounded by buildings and people who seems to have been taken out from a horror movie. I always tried to return before dark as it was just too scary to get back at night.

The staff in the hotel were the most unpleasant people i've ever met. My seven year old daughter was unwell and we asked the receptionist if I could please borrow a spoon to give her some medicine and eventhough the door of the breakfast room was wide open and they had some spoons in a small basket that I could see from the reception I was told "No breakfast has finished and its closed now".

On another occasion I asked to borrow an iron and I was charged for it. First time ever an hotel charges me to borrow an iron

Never ever try to go to "Dodo" unless you want them to wreck your holiday.

I stayed at Dodo Hotel for 9 days in July 2014. The hotel is overall a good one if you are looking for a low cost place top stay. The rooms are quite small, especially the bathroom, but you get boiling hot water in the shower so be careful! Your room is cleaned and towels are changed everyday so that was great. I stayed in room 208 and slept quite well.
The breakfast however, was very limited. If you are gluten and lactose intolerant like me, you will have to eat vegetables only at breakfast with a sausage or piece of ham. This was the biggest frustration for me as the choice was so limited. The walls of the rooms are also very thin and this caused sleeping problems for some of my friends.
The location of the hotel is excellent as it is right around the corner from the tram lines and they are always on time! It was very easy to get into the towns. There is also a fabulous mall 10 minutes away if you are walking where there is a grocery and many stores for great shopping.
The staff was friendly and efficient and eagerly assisted when you had a problem. Overall, I enjoyed my stay. It is not a luxurious hotel, but provides the basic amenities efficiently.

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher floors are quieter as the walls and floors are thin so the noise comes through o...

The hotel was good value at this price. Unfortunately the stay was spoilt by a stag do of 20 guys from Middlesborough. They drank 24 hours a days and all smoked at the entrance to the hotel. They were generally loud, lewd and abusive causing damage to the hotel and general atmosphere. I would avoid staying at this hotel again just because of the stag do.

I think it's better to be a very strong 2-star hotel, than a 4-star hotel with problems. Dodo Hotel does not pretend to be anything else - They are a 2-star hotel in a poorer neighbourhood in Riga, however, they are an excellent 2-star hotel. We stayed there with the team for the World Choir Games. At first I was aprehensive, however, the stay was delightful. There were no expectations of granduer so no disappointments, however the stay was seemless. Rooms are small but clean, breakfast is a lovely buffet filled with variety, the staff speak fluent English and are extremely helpful. The hotel is just a few steps away from the tram stop that takes you to the heart of Riga and old Riga. There is a shopping mall with a variety of shops within 10 minutes walk. This hotel is ideal for persons traveling on a budget and/or traveling with groups. . Maybe has to do with the plumbing. There is no AC in the rooms, however the windows can open wide allowing fresh cool air to come in.Just one area for improvement and i read this in another review so please take heed. There is a strange smell in the bathroom at times.

Room Tip: There are no elevators so if you are unable to do steps choose a room on the ground or second floors...

Me and my son visited in June and we like it. Very clean, it looks like new. Easy to get by tram 7,3 and 9 stop in front of the hotel. A first you get disappointed with the area, but after you go around Riga and noticed that just the center is beautiful, then you realize is a nice area. They have free phone calls next to reception desk.
In Riga visited Elizabetes iela and Arberta iela turnig in Strelnieku iela those are very beautiful street with Art Noveau buildings.
I recommend to take a day trip to Sigulda, it is very beautiful park and castle. Just 45 min by train.

Room Tip: 2nd floor and remember to close the widow.
