“Very nice but a bit frightening”
Reviewed 12 March 2011

I only have positive feedback about the hotel. Big rooms, clean, well equipped with excellent heating ( we needed it in March ). Extremely friendly, young employees who go out of their way to help. Tasty breakfast included in the reasonable room price, free internet, reasonably proced room service. The Riverside hotel is about 10-15 minutes walk from the old city and is situated in an area you might want to refrain from walking in in the dark (even the receptionist admitted the problem) but cabs are not expensive here so if you come back late take a cab ( take a business card from the reception. At the back there is a map. Apparently the street's name just changed and the cab drivers do not know the new one but they do recognize the map ).

This was my first time in Riga, it was in Feb so pretty cold at -15!
We took the no 22 bus from the airport to centre of the old town which cost .70 lat which is about £1 for 30 minute ride to the centre of the city. Once off the bus we got an official taxi to the hotel which was only about 5 mins away and cost 3.50 lat but didn't realise it was so near to the centre and on the main bus route.

The hotel staff were really polite and helpful and all spoke excellent English. The staff explained that you can get the trolly bus was outside and only 1 stop to the train central station or 2 to the old town, You can get the no 19 or 15 to and from the hotel in the Russian quarter and there are buses every few minutes. It cost .70 lats per ride on the bus or you can pay 1.80 lats for a 24hr ticket with unlimited use from one of the newsagent stands next to most bus stops. We actually quite liked to walk in most days as it only took 10-15 minutes to walk into the old town so is in a great location!

The hotel was really clean and I couldn't believe how cheap it was, I had booked online and was waiting for the hidden costs but there were none! Room was clean, flat screen tv, free use of safe with a lovely bathroom and shower. By far the cheapest and best hotel I have ever stayed in, Super value for money!

We ordered room service each morning for coffees and hot chocolate which cost 1 lat very reasonable. They also provided breakfast for 3.50 lats but we opted to eat in the town as we were only there for a short break. You can also get use of the sauna and hot tub which you can privately hire for around 6.50 lats per hour. I would defiantly recommend this hotel to all my friends and family and would stay again if I was to return to Riga.

We explored Riga and definitely recommend going up the the Church spire for breath taking views of Riga. We also jumped on the train to Segulda a ski resort 50km away (about 1hour on train) Here we did a Bobsleigh run which was pure Adrenaline fueled fun topping speeds of 100km per hour a must! You can also ski, snowboard and enjoy a range of activities. They also have a bungy jump for the cable car over the valley in the Summer.

Overall we had a great mini break which was very cost effective with Latvia not having the Euro yet.

I spend three days in Riga and it was a really pleasant stay thanks to Riverside Hotel. Seemed a real bargain, but it was even better then expected. You can get there really quick from the train/bus station. Room was clean and nice. Breakfast is not included in price, available for 5€, but cheaper idea is to buy something to eat in the supermarket nearby. Overall, a nice and friendly hotel, the best I was in Riga so far.

I've visited this hotel on 3-5 December 2010 with my girlfriend.
Hotel is really great, it's close to the Old Town - 1 bus stop or 20 minutes walk.
It's very clean, rooms are big with big and comfortable bed, TV is also provided.
Bathroom looks like new, with big shower cabin in which 3 person I think could have a shower :)
The staff is very nice and everyone speaks English.
Breakfast included in price is big and tasty - eggs, sausages, cheese, fruits, cornfalkes, coffe/tea, juice.

I reccomend this hotel to everyone who wants to visit Riga, and what I want to say: It's not truth that it's hard to find this hotel!

Hotel is great. Kind of tricky to find it but only the first day. Next day you will know exactly where you are. Very close to bus/trams/train stops (2-3 min walking distance). I work in Hospitality Industry and this hotel is great regarding the Value for Money. Rooms are clean, breakfast is OK, stuff is great and friendly so what else do you want?? I would preferred though the room to be slightly more heated but that's because i am greek and i like heat!! I will stay again to this hotel and I will recommend it to everyone I know. I have seen and worked to a lot of hotels around the world and this hotel makes you wonder if they did any mistake to their pricing policy. Yes,is that good.Thank you all for the great stay you offered me.

I stayed in Riverside hotel with my son during September 2010, and have to say what a pleasant place it was. Althought the location of the hotel is just outside the olde town, it is easy to access on foot, by tram, or by taxi.
The rooms are very comfortable, furnished well, and clean. The staff couldn't be more friendly or more helpful; doing all they could to assist with any request, and promptly attending to room service requests.
In terms of value for money, this is a great hotel for seeing Riga. I thoroughly recommend it.
