New hotel, rooms nicely decorated. Very nice breakfast with champagne. Restaurant was open late, think till 3 am. Definitely will recommend this hotel. The only thing i didn't like was its location, bit far from center. Although bus stop was just outside.

The budget price of this hotel fooled us. This is an incredibly nice hotel and the room was outstanding. We are still talking about the varied and abundant breakfast that was actually included in our price. The reception staff is excellent!

Modern hotel, with standard eastern style breakfast buffet of ham, scrambled and boiled eggs, bacon, muesli etc (see my pictures); very fast internet (if you get connection) of 15/13 Mbps download/upload; efficient no-nonsense staff which is typical in eastern European countries; and killer 7~10e/night charges for parking in hotel's garage; fast connection to city by car but awful by foot or by public transport. That about sums it up. I agree with the other comments that say the location cannot be recommended for people without cars as it's too far away from city center. There are no convenient transports other than the expensive hotel taxi. And there is nothing to see nearby. The only sight seeing is the local mall called "Spice that is just one block away; it's huge ladies shoes paradise. B

TIP: if you want to eat, walk to mall's 2nd floor self-catering restaurant which has extremely cheap prices for everything you take. Pork beef, potatoes, rice, chicken, salad, 1~2e/a piece etc. Approx totals 10e/person for as much as you can eat.

About the hotel: If you come by car you've probably heard that Latvia is full of criminals to steal the car for Russian aftermarket. You might want to have your expensive car parked in the garage. Ok, it's doable but pricey. And you can't reserve a place beforehand. All the parking places are gone if you arrive late. You probably loose your spot if you go day-driving, so it's a loose-loose situation. We parked our expensive Audi on the hotel's street with a steering wheel lock-on in place. Nervous by first night but car stayed there for the morning (see my pictures of the hotel street). We concluded It was safe enough to park there for 4 nights.

We arrived very late so I can't comment if the room would have been ready at 12:00 like the other reviewer commented. We had a room in the right wing from the entrance. It was dead silent. Other reviewers had complained about lack of sound insulation on the left hand wing, which is facing *very* busy road. I like firm pillows, not those mushy ones, and to my relief the smaller one had enough support for sleeping sideways to keep head parallel. The bed is comfortable. fro couples, too bad the twin beds, even if put together create a ravine too uncomfortable to cross to sleep together. Breakfast is same every day, so be prepared if you stay longer.

The BAD: reception only gives you one key? Why? The lobby is directly facing the entrance and will be chilly even in early spring (it was 0 C at the end of April 2014!). The room was chilly as in freezer. No heating at all. Radiator was dead and had no heat in the pipes, turning the knob did nothing. The air condition system did nothing although we turned it in max: nothing. We dug deep into pillows for nights and put socks and fleece on in daytime. Experimenting with iir condition propellers proved to make too loud noises to even think about sleeping with them on (could be a problems in summer is you like it quiet). Our small room had no closets, no lockers or good places to store your clothes and things. We had very little luggage this time but for a longer stays it would have been a struggle to keep most of the things in your own baggage.

We are happy to recommend this hotel. Although it isn't in a central location the buses are frequent (22 & 53 into Riga) and taxis are cheap. Breakfast was really well catered and you aren't spoilt for choice. Staff were friendly and helpful with us. As previously mentioned in another review we too arrived before the 2pm check in time but the staff were polite and friendly to us......if you arrive before then head into the hotel bar and get a Riga coffee. That would defo warm you up. Thanks for a lovely stay

I guess it all started when we arrived at 5pm and were told that our room wasn't ready, we were exhausted as we'd been travelling since 3am, so decided to wait in another room upstairs until ours was ready. Once our room was ready, we went to the room and realised there was a twin and not the double room requested. When I asked Oksana at reception to change the room, she agreed but refused to bring our key up, stating that she was 'busy' then proceeded to slam the phone in my face. She didn't seem to recognise that they had created the problem, by leaving it till 5pm to get our room ready when check in started 3 hours earlier, so should do their utmost to resolve it.

The hotel in general was frugal, spartan and felt more like a 3* than a 4*. The information in the room about the hotel was inadequate and I would have thought a 4* star hotel could afford to give us a bit of stationary in our rooms. The hotel was clean, but had this odd masculine decor with a gigantic elephant in the middle of the dining area which I found a bit bizarre and unnecessary.

The upside was dinner. It's served till 3am and is absolutely delicious. Julija who served us that evening was delightful and I challenge you to try the vanilla ice-cream with balsamic glaze and not feel like you've died and gone to heaven!

Breakfast, on the other hand was vile, 90% of the food was processed. I'd ordered a gluten-free brekkie weeks ago and although they'd found my order, they did absolutely nothing to ensure I had something to eat and the staff were not educated at all concerning gluten allergies or gluten free options.

The bus is hit or miss, on their website it says you should take the 22 and get off at Lielirbes iela, but that's actually the 53 bus stop. There is no Lielirbes iela on the 22. You should get off at the stop after 'Spice' coming from the airport on the 22 or the stop before the bridge if you're coming from Old Town. Buses come every 15 minutes. I'd recommend getting the bus, to 'Spice' and eating at the Lido, the food there is divine and authentic Latvian food, there's also a hypermarket and shopping mall there.

If you don't want to get the bus. It's a 15 minute walk. Also if you spot a 'Narvesen' it's like a newsagent. You can buy a pre-paid bus ticket for as many journeys as you need so you end up paying 70cents for the bus instead of 1 euro 20 for each trip.

Apart from 'Spice' there's not much in the area and the staff at Elefant have no concept of customer service apart from Julija (the brunette) in the restaurant and Julija (the blonde, young with glasses) at reception. Both of them were lovely. The gym was clean and equipped and not too busy, but I find it odd that I had to be accompanied there and let in, by someone as reception. Why couldn't they add entry to our key, so we could let ourselves in? There was also a bit of a struggle to get two keys instead of one for our room. They just seemed miserly and the hotel taxi overcharges. Apart from the dinner, it wasn't a great experience and I won't be going anywhere near this place in the future.
