“Quiet corner of the old town "vecriga"”

Stayed for 4 nights - great refurbishment of old building..the best thing is it is actually facing Hotel Neiburgs, yet it's half the price!
Reception staff were friendly and helpful, Aleks restaurant offers hotel guests a discount if they eat there. Best value on Jauniela street!
Great location, a stone's throw from where all the live music is, but still very quiet.

I had the pleasure of staying here 1 night , and really loved this fantastic old hotel. It is a really beautiful old building, with a real sense of history and atmosphere.
Its right in the heart of the old city, just a few steps away from the main square, on one of the "art-neuvo" streets and yet on a quiet side-street. The reception staff were very friendly and welcoming and I had a very nice room on the top floor - overlooking the charming red roofs of old Riga, and with a stunning view of the Cathedral a few streets away.
The room I had was very large and had a very good sized bathroom too. There was a TV with a good selection of channels, and the room was good and quiet at night too. All of the public areas of the hotel were really nice too, and I loved the paintings on the wall beside the lifts.
Breakfast was in the restraut, and there were some very nice antiques furniture and old movie posters on the walls to add to the atmosphere (I think the hotel and the street it is on have been used in some movies as they are so well preserved and beautiful). The food selection was nice with fresh rolls, hams and salami.
The old historic centre of Riga is right on the doorstep of the hotel, and there are loads of nice cafes and bars close by. I walked to the hotel from the bus station (as I was travelling by bus between Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn), and the walk took about 15 minutes. There is a Mini-Maax supermarket not too far from the hotel (down near the river), which is handy for any supplies you might need.
All the staff spoke english - and were very helpful in providing maps and suggestions on things to see in Riga.
I would definetly recommend this hotel , and am hoping to return there again myself.

Room Tip: If you can get a room on the top floor check out the view over the red roofs towards the cathedral...

This hotel is located in the heart of Riga, close to many nice restaurants, and still reachable by car - a plus when you have to take a taxi. The hotel itself is beautiful, and seems to be coming directly from the 19th century. The rooms (all of different sizes) are very cosy, and definitively not your usual business hotel. Unfortunately, appearances take a little over commodities; there is no wi-fi in the rooms, no coffee or tea maker neither. There is a fridge, but so small that even no water was provided in it. In our beautiful double room, which was quite large, we had a table with 1 chair; when I asked for a second one, I was told it was not possible to provide any. For a 4* hotel, this is not acceptable...

Nice hotel in Rigas old town, situated in a building reconstructed from an old building that stood here in the 14th century.

Our room was spacious with a not too big - but nice - bathroom. The walls from the old building inside our room created a great feeling of connecting with the past! The only problem was that the electric lights above our bed did not work. This seems to have been a major problem, because we were told it was not expected to be fixed as long as we were staying there! Besides that, we loved our room, though it had not a great view (back yard).

Breakfast was good, but nothing special. Staff seemed nice too, but we didn't ask for much information and walked the city by our own guidebook and map.

The hotel is ideally situated in the old town, close to «everything». All major sights - and 3 shopping-centers, are just around the corner or a short walk away.

Riga was a great city for a few days break. Try SPA (we paid 130 € for 6 hours full treatment, from toe to hair!). The rooftop bar at the Radisson Hotel in Elizabetes iela 55 is great, with a wonderful view of the city. Many nice small squares with bars/restaurants and live music every night.

I hope to return to Riga, and could certainly stay at this hotel again!

This was our second stay at the Hotel Justus, and it was every bit as enjoyable as the first. The location, of course, is superb. It's still great value for money. The staff is friendly and goes out of their way to be helpful. Riga is such a great destination that I'm happy to have a "home hotel" there. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Four-star boutique Hotel Justus is located in the very of the old town of Riga, literally a few steps away from the famous Dome cathedral, within the architectural area protected by UNESCO as a part of world heritage. The immaculate renovation of the historical building was completed by April 2009, and so today the authentic facade conceals 45 cosy rooms uniquely designed to embrace the charm of genuine brickwork combined with fascinating art objects, antique as well as contemporary. Personalised service matched with attractive pricing policy makes Hotel Justus of great interest for a wide range of guests. The hotel’s site possesses high historical value, since it was part of the plot of land selected by Bishop Albert as the location for his Baltic residence back in 1210. However, the medieval wooden housing was destroyed by the fire in the 17th century, so the architectural ensemble comprising Jauniela Street today dates back to the 18th century. The facade of the hotel itself underwent the last major alteration in 1874. The building hosted a tavern in the early 19th century that was later replaced by typography and lithography services, in the 20th century it was occupied by artisan workshops, pharmaceutical laboratories, and then a cinema gallery and offices. Charms of architecture and historical atmosphere made this place a favourite shooting spot of Soviet movie-makers. Now the hotel belongs to a small group of friends that has spotted an empty run-down building and revived it with artistic energy.Idea of making restaurant Aleks comes from the simple desire to enjoy Riga of the beginning of the previous century. Interior is made from the household items of those times, which gives the restaurant unique look. ... more   less
