Great museum located in an Art Nouveau apartment building that is still occupied by residents. The Museum itself is a ground floor apartment that has been re-furnished in the original A.N. style. A delightful way to view what home life was like for the wealthy in that age.

I enjoyed seeing the apartment in its original style, decoration and furniture. The stair case for the whole building is magnificent, and the other museum at the top, while very different, is also worth visiting.

It is almost impossible to find a building or apartment with its Art Nouveau interior still intact, so anyone interested in this genre should treat this as a holy grail. The closest thing I have seen is in the Musee D'Orsay (Paris) where there are some wonderful 'high Art Nouveau' interior suites - perhaps the best you are likely to see anywhere in the world. Here, on the other hand, you can witness a more modest but nonetheless well-preserved vernacular interior - with furnishings that are mostly locally-made - that is both charming and interesting. Well done.

I liked this museum as the curators are wearing beautiful costumes and explaining the life style of early 20th century to visitors. The museum is small but the building is amazingly beautiful. You cannot stop oohing and ahhing.

I have been incredibly surprised by the beauty of the art nouveau district in Riga, I did not expect to find so many buildings, so beautiful and so beautifully renovated.

This museum is the ideal place to start if you want to learn something about Art Nouveau in general and in Riga in particular. It is located in what was the apartment of one of the most famous architects of his times, Pēkšēns, so you have the chance to walk around and see the authentic interiors of the place in which a lot of the art nouveau buildings in Riga were designed. In itself it is an excellent example of Art Nouveau from the beginning of the twentieth century. The day in which we had the tour we were welcomed by a group of lovely old ladies, all dressed up like in Paris at the beginning of the past century, perhaps authentic ladies from those times :)

In the museum you can purchase for a couple of euros two itineraries that drive you through the historic centre of Riga, in search of the most important art nouveau buildings. It is a walk that takes you half-a-day if you stop at every building and read about it, but it is really worth.

Before leaving the museum, do not forget to have a look at the spiral staircase of the building, possibly without disturbing too much the people that still leave there.
