“Funky Hotel!!”
Reviewed 24 November 2011

We were moved from the Avalon Hotel to the Tallink after the Avalon had a computer error and booked a whole lot of people that they didn't have room for, so we were skeptical that we were getting moved to another hotel. However, the Avalon assured us that we were moving to another 4 star hotel with all the same facilities. We were pleasantly surprised, firstly, when you walk in you notice how funky the place is - the elevators look like they're covered in licorice! Everything is really nicely decorated, and that continues into the rooms. The rooms aren't spacious, but they do the job, and everything is new and clean. The hotel itself is in a great location, and everything is within walking distance. The staff were helpful with every question, and the buffet breakfast gave a lot of choice. Beautiful city and a lovely hotel - would definitely recommend this hotel.

Good business hotel in the Center of Riga across from the central Train/Coach station.

New and clean hotel

Rooms were compact but had normal facilities.
Good Flat TV with PC & HDMI input
Free WIFI (standard in Eastern Europe)

Small Gym room with all the equipment you would need on a holiday.
Sauna and Sap available before 11am, after that has to be booked for private use,

Breakfast was very good with large selection of food.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is quite new, modern and clean. The room we were in was quite spacious and we loved the heated floor tiles in the bathroom. We brought our own soap and other toiletries and are glad we did as the hotel was not too generous in providing their guests with these extras. Breakfast was amazingly good with many hot and cold foods to choose from. The location of the hotel is near the train station. This was ideal for us as we used the train to visit our friends and relatives.

Stayed there in october for a long weekend.
Hotel is a really nice and modern. I think it was built one and a half year ago, looked (smelled :) new as well. Our room size was a bit small, but we managed well there. Beside, You go there to sleep, not to stay inside the whole day. In London I have seen smaller rooms though :) Bathroom was nice, lot of room there. Great that they had a rain shower and a regular shower choice. Huge built in cupboard fits a lot, safe is also there. Clean hotel, tidy rooms lot of mirrors around the hotel, that are always clean. Cleaning staff is doing a great job.
Hotel location is good as well. Easy to reach to old town and to public transportation. Next to shopping centres and train station. Red London style double deck City Tour bus stop is also not far, maybe 500 m. It is a smart choise, if You want to see city outside center as well and not to spend a whole day on it. and city tour busses as well.
One evening we ate at the new Cottons Restaurant. Great choice, go there if You can, it is quite popular.

I recently stayed and had a very time time. The bathrooms are lovely with under floor heating. The single beds are comfy but very thin. If you order a sandwich expect only one slice of bread. Overall very nice

Room Tip: Go for a double

I had read that about 40% of the people of Latvia have Russian origins. This may account for the difficulty I had in getting any sort of warmth from the people who serve you around the city, even if you do try to use some Latvian words. However the warmth of this hotel was more than just in the central heating.

It is a modern hotel with lots of facilities including free wi-fi throughout the building. The rooms are fairly standard for a modern business hotel but the best thing was the underfloor heating in the bathroom which was magnificent. The two single beds in my room were rather narrow but otherwise everything was immaculately clean and the shower gave a splendid high pressure wash.

For tourists the location of this hotel may not be the best as it is a 10-15 minute walk to the attractive old part of the city, but taxis are not expensive and are plentiful.

One tip at breakfast - there is a chef who will cook you whatever form of egg you might wish. This is not obvious at first but as the scrambled egg is turned out in industrial quantities and then left alongside all the other dishes in the hot plate the eggy chef is an excellent alternative.

Rooms were lovely and modern!! Always very clean with new towels and bedding daily! Breckfast was excellent huge choise obviously continental but me and my boyfriend loved it! Hotel bar lovely! We had a bargin on this hotel so were very happy with what we paid. Didn't find the staff particularly friendly or unfriendly but that doesn't really bother me as long as they are doing the job what more could you ask for! Would recommend it!!

Very good location. About a 10 minute walk to the old town and right in the center of the newer part of the city! Small shop opposite for snacks and water! Very lovely stay all round!
