Phil took us on a 2.5 hour walk around and through Riga - skipped most of the old city bits as you can easily do these on your own.

Instead we got an architecture and history lesson of the many other places in Riga

Although free - give a generous tip - as well worth your time

We found the Riga Free Tour and joined the group for 3 hours walking outside the city center and all around for great views and stories and history of Riga. The guide, Martin, was wonderful! Hats off to this group of young people who provide this service. We have yet to be disappointed!

We went on a walk with Martins (not sure about the spelling, sorry!) and a group of about twenty people, which I believe to be a normal turnout. Great guy, very clear communication, and not too serious about anything. It was a scorching hot day and we kept the tour a little shorter than usual, clocking in at 2 h 13 min. Be sure to bring nice shoes and water!

Martins took us to cool places just outside the tourist comfort zone, and many of them we decided to return to after the tour. You'll see nice parks, different shopping opportunities, and a peek behind the tourist facade of Riga.

I could have used some more detail in the stories, but I appreciate the walk for the reviewer's local tips alone. Well worth your time. And money! These things can't actually work for free, you know.

Thanks Phil, the Aussie/Latvian guide. You showed us places we'd have never have gone and places we never would have found. Thanks for the fun history lessons. Thanks for sharing your love for Latvia. Thanks for spending 3 hours of your life showing us around this awesome city. Thanks for giving us some good tips on where to eat and what to do tomorrow
