“Don't Tell Anyone About This Place”
Reviewed 1 July 2013

We're staying here as I write this review. It's been 2 years since we stayed here last and we intend to come back as often as we can make the long journey from Australia. This time we've brought our neighbours with us, after telling them so much about Riga and this hotel over the years. Fortunately they also love the place. It's a massive complex, steeped in history. Rates are at the low end and a great breakfast is included. Rooms don't come with airconditioning, refridgerators, or flat screen TVs. However you might be lucky enough to get a fan and a little fridge placed in your room if you're here for any length of time. Same goes for jugs to boil water! Something special about the Konventa Seta is the same faces are here to greet you each time. This tells me that the place looks after its staff as well as its guests, making for a great atmosphere and all-round experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room!

Orignially, we had booked an apartment. Due to the unfavourable environment, we came to Konventa Seta to look for a room. The staff tried effort to help and could offer us a junior suite for 3 person. She even reminded us to move in tomorrow since the apartment, that we had booked, would charge us for the first night fee. She also phoned to the apartment to make clarification. For the hotel room, it was simple and cozy. The breakfast was delicious. We all found that the room was in good value.

My husband and I stayed at Konventa Seta in early June, just before the real tourist season set in. We enjoyed the location - well placed for walking to many of Riga's most interesting sites, even the Jugend district (across a beautiful park). We got a small "apartment" in one of the "wings" of the hotel, which was fairly quiet (though I doubt any place in the Old Town of Riga is really quiet - lots of music, much of it commendably live, penetrates even convent walls!). The room was spacious, beds good, and topping it all, excellent reading lamps. Noticed also that the one piece of art work, a graphic, was very good. Not your usual reproduction. The hotel staff were capable and professional, the restaurant staff dito - they all spoke very adequate English. Breakfast was hearty. All in all a successful stay.

Room Tip: Try to get a room that is as quiet as possible, definitely one that is off the street - if you'r...

A group of six adults stayed in this hotel in June for 4 nights, the staff were very friendly, and spoke good English.
I would recommend getting a Junior suite as the ordinary rooms are small, though you do not get a fridge or coffee making facilities.
The room & public places were very clean, breakfast was included and though basic was adequate, they had a bar area with limited opening time, but you are so close to all the bars & restaurants. Also your are near all the sights & amenities. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We were on the third floor overlooking ST Johns church, very quiet

Recently stayed here as part of a group organised trip. The location is quite marvellous as you are right in the middle of the "Old Town" with beautiful buildings, shops, restaurants and bars all just a step away. However, the hotel seems to have it's own little courtyard and alleyways which make it nicely quiet and private.
Our ground floor room was spacious and clean with adequate bathroom facilities.
The breakfast was very chaotic as the layout in a long hallway means when too many people come all at once it is all a queue. Sometimes refills were slow. This is a shame as the food itself was very nice with a fair choice on offer.
Staff were pleasant but our set dinner in the restaurant one evening lacked taste and ambience despite the name of the restaurant! It was also stuffily hot and uncomfortably airless.
That said I would stay there again but eat out.

We were having a business team meeting at the hotel, and everything worked very well. Beverage like coffee and water was very expensive though, but good internet connections and ok meeting room. Rooms were large, clean and nice, and had aslso good internet connection. But only a very old tv from the 90'ties and no English language channels. Staff was young and needed more supervision. But considering the room prices I can recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: Order the junior suite - if available.

Konventa Seta is an average hotel but very well located in the middle of the old town. It is a collection of several old houses, the interior (in the main building) is a bit tired and could do with some refreshing/maintenance.
Breakfast is is served in adjoined (self service breakfast) restaurant "Ambiente" and it's OK but sometime crowded and the staff was often late to refill. Service in the hotel was just average, once I had to look all over the place for someone to help me at the main desk. Our room was on the ground floor, pedestrian street near our window and sometimes a bit noisy in the evenings. Short walk to the many coffee houses and restaurants in the old city.

Easy to walk to the market and the mall that are close to the old town, and another large mall only 50 m away. Recommend a bike tour if you want to get a quick look of the old town and it surroundings.

Room Tip: Try to get a room away from the street and not on the ground floor.
