“Overcrowed and noisy”
Reviewed 8 January 2011

Stayed here for 3 nights.
The first problem was with the lift. It can bring you only to the floor where your room is located. Very inconvenient. I lived on the 3d floor and my friend lived on the 2d. So, we had to ask for an extra key for the 3d floor. And sometimes we had to use the card many times before the lift starts moving.
To find your room you need to go through the labyrinth of corners and rooms.
The room was quite comfortable and filled with different stuff: a kettle and some tea and biscuits (though cups occurred to be very dusty), shoe sponge, additional heaters, lots of useful cosmetics and slippers (thanks for that).
I didn't like big windows and the view was to a very noisy street (municipal services were cleaning the street from the snow all the nights).
There is also free wi-fi.
Breakfasts were really tasty and variable (thanks for pancakes =)) but the atmosphere was quite nervous and noisy because the restaurant was always overcrowded.
The hotel is quite far from the center of the city. So, we had to walk a lot. But it is as it is.

We were staying in the Business Class room & it was absolutely great: located on the 24th floor with terrific view over the center of Riga, very spacious, great bathroom & comfy bed. Actually the room was absolutely impeccable. The service was swift and always polite. The location of the hotel is very convenient. Breakfasts were quite good. ESPA Riga is absolutely worth visiting! The prices of the mini-bar & hotel services are fairly reasonable. Can't think of anything I didn't like about the hotel. Though Radisson BLU Latvija may be a little bit overwhelming for those who like quite places. There's always something going on with lots of huge tourist groups arriving & departing at any time. Yet there was no noise or loud drunk tourists loitering in the corridors during our stay.

First of all the rooms in the original high rise building is of rather low standard. Not what you would expect in a four star Radisson hotel. First night we got a room first in the corridor next to a locked door entering the corridor and the hotel elevators. Since there were a lot of young people staying on the floor without card key they were banging on the doors to be let in. A lot of noice until six thirty in the morning. Next night we asked to change to another room and we got one in the north wing. This part is much newer and standard of the rooms would reflect a Radisson hotel and also what is shown on the pictures from this actual hotel. However during the following two days we were staying in this room we had hot water only parts of the time. The explanation form the hotel staff were that too many people were trying to use the showers/bath at the same time. That is not what you expect in a four star hotel that you have to take a shower in cold water. Also the quality of the breakfast buffet was not particularly good. Ok there were a lot of guests in the hotel but the staff had problems coping with cleaning tables and filling up the buffet when food was out.

I stayed there for 5 nights, 3 of them for business in one room and the remaining 2 over the weekend in another. It seems that some floors have been renovated just recently and look and feel great, whereas the other floors are still waiting to be renovated but they're still pretty good, not shabby or smelly as other reviewers suggest.

My twin room on the 20th floor was newly renovated and overlooked the old town. The view is magnificent! The room itself was compact and cozy, albeit a bit cold. I loved the bathroom amenities, the slippers, the good choice of cable channels and the soft bed.

The room on the 19th floor where I moved for the remaining 2 nights looked as if it was renovated some 5 to 7 years ago -- very clean and comfortable but the furniture is a bit outdated. However, it was a business class room and it had wonderful soft bathrobes.

The breakfast is very generous and will suit any taste.

WiFi is free in all rooms and you can even get connection in the lobby, which is very handy.

The location isn't that perfect for seeing the old town in winter because it takes about 10 minutes to walk there but in the summer you will enjoy the stroll past the park.

We were at this Radisson the same week they change name, from Reval to Radisson, but we didn´t suffer any inconvenience for that reason. No queues at reception, quick check in,friendly staff. Some step back in time decor survive.
I don´t remember our floor, but was high, with the city at our feet.Unfortunately,no old city views, maybe you need to upgrade to enjoy them. Our room was a little worn out,but very clean, scandinavian style.Very good bathroom.
Breakfast was more than adequate, the restaurant was very busy that day,and the staff was hurried, not a very relaxed experience, but is a big hotel, and they had some kind of congress.
You can walk leisurely to the city centre in 10 min,but if you are there for tourist reasons, there are better located hotels, even another Radisson. The area around is interesting, with plenty of restaurants and shops.
And the airport shuttle stops at the door.Timetables are posted in the lobby.

I don't think there is a better location in Riga. I have been now 5 times to Riga, and the last two times I stayed at the Radisson Blu Hotel Latvija (formerly the Reval Latvija) - and will do so in the future.
The hotel has all you need: Spacious, light and very clean rooms, good breakfast buffet, a big lobby with a beautiful lounge, a perfect and well-known spa, a great casino (if you play poker - cash games or tournaments - that is the place to go!), a nightclub and the skybar with a panoramic view over Riga. There are rooms in the north wing (modern and new, but no view) and in the main tower (old town view and city view).
For the night out, start with a drink at the Skybar - a must in Riga! Later, the nearby "Club Essential" could be a good address for any goals you might have on a wild night out. If you head to any quieter (more and less) bars in the old town, it's just a short walk.

By the way: If you know Henning Mankells bestseller crime "The dogs of Riga", that's the hotel Wallander stayed in.

I stayed in this hotel, with my friend, whom was on business. We stayed one night. I found, like other reviewers, check in somewhat slow - however this may be due to the popularity of the hotel. Fantastic proximity to the old town. Lovely restaurant, with reasonable prices. Breakfast was good - with every possible choice. The room on the 18th floor was fine. Lovely shower. The double room was in fact two single beds pushed together, however this was no problem. The room was lovely. Delightful extra - which I havent seen anyone comment upon.... we returned to the room to find a gift bag with Latvian socks/slippers - really cool design, and mittens with Latvian CD in room. This was a lovely touch, never to be seen by myself in any hotel anywhere!!! The Bar was gorgeous, and my own bit of heaven ... the ESPA spa - it needs its own review section! I booked a treatment, but didnt realise that I would have the infinity pool, sauna, steam rooms and relaxation rooms to myself! It was quiet, peaceful, exactly what you want when you are on your own. It was heaven. i have a 5* hotel near me, which I use for the pool and gym and the changing rooms in this spa in this hotel, were so so superior. The treatment was amazing, way beyond what we have in 5* hotels in Ireland, and the solitude and ability to be on your own in your thoughts, dipping into each amazing luxurious section will stay with me for years! The treatment was 113 Euro or 80Latvian currency - pretty steep for one treatment, however the hour before the treatment on my own in the infinity pool, etc and being in the ESPA spa for 3hrs made this worthwhile. Overall, the stay was really good, but the ESPA spa made it complete
