“Excellent location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2011

The location of the hotel is great - a beautiful park in front and old town in back of the hotel.

The hotel itself has lots of old world charm, the rooms are ok - the textiles in the room were not exactly matching, but never mind...We were upgraded to a superior twin room. The room was spacious enough and there were two king size beds. Suites are not expensive - next time I think we'll book a junior suite rather than a standard or superior room.

The breakfast was also ok, nothing special though.

Parking is a problem as the hotel is in the very centre of Riga. There is however a Europark close to the hotel (maybe 500 metres) and you get a discount from prices when you pay your parking in hotel reception.

Building is very good example of Soviet architecture, our room was enormous, the bathroom was as big as some places rooms.
We also went to sauna downstairs, had a nice big pool, kids could play, meanwhile we were on the steam room. And the Wifi was in the room, free of charge
Location is perfect, in the corner of Old Town, opposite the Opera house.
The only downside of the hotel is its old fashion management and specially it is seen in the development of extra services. But maybe it gives the peace and space

Room Tip: Rooms are spacious, check during the off-season good prices through booking engines, we got 50% from...

We stayed in march out of season with our 3 year old. Located on the beach, stunning facilities including outdoor pool and kids pool with a kids play area fantastic! Slight down side was to use the indoor pool we had to pay an additional 10 euros but still lovely. The rooms were amazing, we had a partial River view and balcony - just lovely. Large spacious rooms great bathrooms and very clean!

Dinner was lovely buffet and excellent value, different every night. What made our stay was the staff they are a true asset to you! They were great with our daughter, made us feel very welcome.

I will be returning and I have recommended this hotel to friends. Just perfect thanks.

Room Tip: Large spacious rooms great bathrooms and very clean!

Don't be lured into this hotel by the 4-stars rating you will find on the web or on all documents you receive about the hotel. The 4 stars might have been appropriate when the hotel was last renovated, but it should have lost one star each decade afterwards, and the last renovation seems to have happened in the 70s. Old style soviet design with falling apart cheap repairs is all you will find in this over-spacious hotel with useless open areas.

I really have absolutely no idea why this hotel got 4 stars. To make the review shorter, here are the bullet points:
- checking in earlier than 15:00 costs 20 Euro extra
- elevators might be too narrow for wheelchairs
- no safe deposit boxes on rooms but available from desk
- de-colored and heat deformed lampshades
- dead insects on wall
- loose wiring on wall
- half-broken TV sets showing 3 channels
- loose and rusty towel-heater
- tiles missing in bath room
- shower hook loose on wall
- old knobs to regulate hot and cold water separately
- different knobs used to repair water
- bath door lock broken
- towel hooks screwed on not straight
- stains on all bathroom equipment
- carpets in halls making waves and having stains
- dirty walls with holes around the entrance of the hotel
- disaster breakfast running out of supply
- rocking and dirty breakfast tables fixed with paper and cover

Over all maybe 2 stars. Location is good but there are enough other hotels to choose from if one wants to stay in the old part of the city centre.

Room Tip: choose another hotel!

Outstanding location in terms of being at a walking distance from everything interesting wether for sightseeing or to eat and drink.
More or less friendly and helpful staff.

The room is clean but could be cleaner, it's not appropriate to find hair on the bed.
There's a smell of wood or humidity in the room which is repulsive at the beginning but u'll adapt to it quickly.

The biggest disadvantage is that the hotel is right on the road where cars motorcycles, buses and the tram itself pass by as if they're being driven in the room...it's TOO noisy

Room Tip: If u want to book in this hotel take the highest floor. the second floor is quite noisy.

25 years ago this was the best hotel in Latvia. Unfortunatelly its better days are long gone. The interior is very outdated, bathrooms are clean and little updated since soviet times, you can still feel some of it present. Beds also feel like they are there since ussr times, althoung we slept well. Breakfast provided barely the essentials.
The good thing about this hotel is the location - next to the Old town and in the centre of Riga. I also liked that windows in the rooms are opening.

This impressive building is well located in the Eastern side of the Old Town. It has a charm of the yesterday, specially from the outside. The rooms are moderate, a little worn-out, but cosy. Service is ok, but the breakfast didn't quite work. The breakfast room was crowded betwenn 9 and 10 o'clock and they run out of most of the items – like eggs, bread, and coldcuts. Otherwise I was quite happy with my visit here. It was good value for money.
