There is more than one reason to consider this hotel the best in Latvia as voted 8 years almost in a row.
Location: right in the heart of the city, just a few steps from the dome and a number of restaurants and bars.
The check in experience has been perfect: no reception counter, but just an ancient desk with an amazingly kind officer.
The room - suite 201 - was very clean, super appointed and equipped. The living room pretty big to rest watching TV or working on a desk. The touch screen tablet is a very nice toy!
The bar staff is very polite and drinks very well prepared and served.
The concierge is always ready to anticipate your needs. Unbelievable!|
Wide buffet breakfast with fresh made eggs or omelette.
Definitely suggested!

I spent 3 nights in the Grand Palace Hotel for business purposes. Room is big, nice size bathroom, clean and bright overall. People in the hotel are very nice and helpful. the restaurant is very nicely decorated, good food, nice breakfast as well, although the pancakes are not real pancakes, they are home made but do not taste like real pancakes, try them and you'll see what i mean. Area is very central, near the old town. I really enjoyed my stay. Wifi and computer in the room and very good service overall. they have a gym and a spa which i have not used though.

I needed to take a break from Moscow, and I did not want to travel too far and I did not want to spend huge amounts of money. So I searched on Expedia, and found a good deal for Riga, which I had not visited before but had heard what a nice place it is. Expedia offered some nice hotels at attractive prices, and this is what I chose. I had not realised that the hotel is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World "club", although over the years I have often stayed in members of the association - usually in Switzerland. And this hotel really lives up to the brand. Location, quality, service. Excellent in every way.

We have had an excellent stay. The staff are helpful, courteous and the service has generally been outstanding. The only thing of note is that smoking is still permitted in both of the hotel bars. As non smokers who wanted to enjoy a nightcap we actually left early due to the heavy cigar smoke. As there are two bars it's a shame that one of them is not reserved for non-smokers.

I had been staying at Grand palace Riga roughly 3 times a year, since our family romance with Latvia had started in 2010.
I travel with young children and every time it’s just a marvel: free extra bed, free small chocolates at a pillow, free chocolate cake for my personal birthday which is being torn to pieces  We normally arrive in the mornings by direct train from Moscow and every invitation to complimentary breakfast (which is obviously not included on arrival day) comes as a pleasant surprise.
Bad things do exist here:
* cigar bar on a ground level next to lobby still allow tobacco smokers in, so nasty stench scrambles up to a third floor at least,
* complimentary morning newspapers which were hanged on a door knob into cozy cotton bags are no longer there,
* ever popular parrots in a larger-then-life iron cage at reception (I suppose they were parrots, weren’t they?) no longer greet and entertain guests. My elder daughter is still confident parrots were kidnapped and privately enjoyed for dinner by her toy cat 

Despites the above, overall impression is simply excellent.
That is THE place to stay in Riga, matching icon image of stylish historical hotel, with adds-on like hearty-warm staff attitude and good food.

I understand many people are interested in hints and tips.
Here they are 
* take deluxe room with Pils iela (Castle street) view; they are few in numbers and better fit for soaking into Riga atmosphere. Junior suites and most of other rooms look into courtyard or smaller Maza Pils iela.
* take arrival transfer, especially if you travel with children: you would be met by smartly dressed person right at a train carriage and smoothly taken direct to hotel door by superior vehicle like BWM. Taxi will charge just 5 Euro less, but you’ll need to drag all luggage yourself to a taxi booth.
* if you fancy a beer, take new “BIO” brand from a small store 3 minutes on foot to the left of main entrance, not from hotel restaurant: it’s absolutely super in quality and comes cheap.

Room Tip: I understand many people are interested in hints and tips. Here they are  * take deluxe room wi...
